Marine Shot Dead West of Baghdad -- U.S. Military (1298)
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=7096483

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Unknown gunmen have shot and killed a Marine west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.
The Marine was killed Tuesday while carrying out operations in Anbar, a large province west of Baghdad that includes the volatile cities of Falluja and Ramadi.

No further details were given.

At least 1,020 U.S. troops have been killed in action in Iraq since the beginning of the war.

... I believe we are now at 1298 DEAD in Iraq. In spite of the way the US military parses numbers, dead is DEAD!

3. Good morning, saigon and leftchick!
What bu$h really gets off on (after the tumesence that death induces in his tiny todger) is the fact that "the people" will march their sons and daughters to the slaughterhouse just because he's a man of such firm convictions.

Associated Press Writer

Two Wisconsin Marines serving in the same platoon died the same day in an explosion in Iraq, including one whose twin brother is to be married during the Christmas holidays, authorities said Tuesday.

Lance Cpl. Richard D. Warner, 22, of Waukesha, and Pfc. Brent Vroman, 21, of Omro, died Monday from wounds received in an explosion during combat operations in Babil Province, the military said.

Both riflemen were with the Marine Corps Reserve's 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, headquartered in Chicago, and assigned to the first platoon of Fox Company in Milwaukee, said 1st Sgt. Cecil Goodloe, a spokesman for the company.

"This is the fourth comrade that Fox Company has lost and it's really a deep and sad occasion that this has happened during the holiday season," Goodloe said.

7. Good Morning DUers-Fallujah must look like an Aurora Borealis at night
At times, when the fight was dragging on, the Chechen
force would move out of the city and attack the Russian force
in the rear, especially in cities already taken. This was a
daring exploit if one report is accurate—that 50,000
Russian soldiers surrounded the city.

Finally, the impressive mobility of the Chechen force
included escape routes from firing positions,
interconnected firing positions and again the sewer network
to move about the city. Reportedly a computer in Grozny
kept track of everyone in the city and other areas of
Chechnya who reported in by radio. Russian forces
especially feared the nighttime, when the Chechens would
move against and reclaim abandoned positions. The
Chechen force allegedly used chlorine and ammonia
bombs, set oil wells on fire to obscure fields of vision and
rigged entire building complexes with explosives. Other
reports indicated that the Russians offered the Chechens
safe passage out of the city and amnesty for those who
could prove they were not involved in the
fight.

8. Grozny2000-How would US forces do under similar circumstances?
During a recent speech the US Army Chief of Staff reiterated
his interest in four points regarding US war fighting
concepts: initiate combat on our terms, at a time, place
and method of our choosing; gain the initiative and
never surrender it; build operational momentum over time;
and win as rapidly as possible. Would these criteria apply in
the case of urban operations such as Grozny? The short
answer appears to be no.

9. After declaring victory, Russian troops in Chechnya lost in one week
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 10:22 AM by jmcgowanjm
A company of paratroopers (84 men) from the 76th
Russian Airborne division based in Pskov was wiped out in
the mountains of southern Chechnya. A column of elite
Interior Ministry OMON paramilitary solders was mowed
down inside "liberated" Grozny. An elite special unit of the
Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian general staff
(32 men) was massacred in the mountains of
southern Chechnya.

10. Iraqi Resistance Report 121304 &121305
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 09:36 AM by jmcgowanjm
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Resistance fighters were able
to feign withdrawal from one area in the al-‘Askari
neighborhood, luring American troops into a building that
they had previously wired to explode. The American forces
fell into the trap, which was created for them on the main
street in the popular area.Pursuing the “retreating”
Resistance fighters, the US troops began searching homes
for fighters and weapons caches. Eyewitnesses told
Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance left a small quantity
of arms in one house to attract them, planting half a ton
of explosives in the building as well. When about 40
Americans gathered in the building to admire what they
had found, the Resistance fighters detonated the
explosives, bringing the roof of the structure down on
the soldiers’ heads. Fire blazed from all sides of the
building. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an American
general was among the dead.

US forces sent an emissary to the building of the governorate
of al-Anbar in ar-Ramadi city try to negotiate the release of
the three generals. The Resistance, however, refuses to
release the generals separately from their men.
Mafkarat al-Islam quotes the Resistance position as
being: “either we release all of them or we hold all of
them.” Sources close to the Iraqi Resistance told
Mafkarat al-Islam that the occupation forces have a number
of Resistance fighters in captivity as well, 90 percent of
whom were taken prisoner on 26 Ramadan (9 November
2004), the day when the aggressor forces broke into al-
Fallujah, hitting the Resistance with narcotic gas – something
for which they were unprepared

11. Message from 51% of the voters - "we don't care ! Four more wars!"
They only want domestic moral values.

Death outside the country means nothing to them.
