Saddam loyalists more of a threat than Zarqawi: Myers
MANAMA (AFP) - US army chief Richard Myers said that loyalists of ousted president Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) pose a bigger threat in Iraq (news - web sites) than Al-Qaeda linked operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"The predominant threat are the former Baathists, the Iraqi intelligence service, former Republican Guards and leaders in the former regime of Saddam Hussein," Myers told reporters during a visit to Bahrain.

"Zarqawi is the leader of mostly foreign fighters and some Iraqis, he is also very ruthless," added Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"We know that he is capable of anything... but the predominant threat are the insurgents associated with the regime of Saddam Hussein," he added.

4. Myers simply refuses to admit,...
,...that these are Iraqi people fighting to keep their country.

They don't want a foreign occupation.

What's so complicated about that notion?

He's rationalizing and doing every mental acrobat to excuse his role in brutally forcing our will upon the will of another sovereign people.

6. Sorry--no credibility anymore
It is as likely to be a lie, as it is the truth.

We know we are being lied to on almost every issue, so I tend to view anything coming from the government and the military/Pentagon/Isp/oval office, as a lie.

7. "Saddam loyalists"?
You know, I bet if you asked them, they really wouldn't be that keen on having Saddam back. I'm sure he had become a royal pain in the ass after all those years in power, even to 'Saddam loyalists'. He was a total prima donna, ya know?

I think they'd really just prefer that the US leave Iraq. Today, if possible.

12. Saddam loyalists to Saddam is what WMD programs is to WMDs. Linkage
boo! scary, very scary saddam, very scary saddam loyalists! them bad men, kill them!

reptilian brain functions strike again in the ability of the american people to understand US foreign policy.

you know, i really am beginning to realize that logic systems and behavior otherwise deemed rational by individuals is not applicable to groups.

8. It's because they've decided to back the Shiite against the Sunni.
So they are going to call the Sunni to be exterminated, "Saddam Loyalists". They have changed "Sunni Triangle" to "Triangle of Death". What does that tell you?

9. All the king's men are baffled about who they are fighting in Iraq
They don't have a grip on the situation, and probably fear losing the war. It was a fool hearty campaign to begin with, destined to fail.
However if the fundies and rw members of the military wish to get slaughtered they ought to knock themselves out.

10. The counrty won't take this another 4 years...
We need a guy (or woman!) not from the Senate or House, that can take it to the repubs on Iraq and the rest of this mess they created...

Iraq, unfortunately, will still be a major problem in 4 years.

13. Most unqualified Chairman in history.
Appointed because he is a Star Wars expert. He has no clue regarding ground combat. He is an unprincipled lackey. He lies in these statements and certainly knows what he is saying is untrue. Saddam loyalists?!? Even stupid-ass freepers won't believe this crap.
