Senate Blocks Changes in Student Aid Rules
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate blocked proposed changes in U.S. student aid rules on Wednesday that critics said would deny federal assistance to thousands of students even as tuition costs at the nation's universities surge.

The Republican-controlled Senate voted 50-45 to approve a Democratic amendment that would bar the Bush administration from making changes -- announced in May this year -- to the formulas for the first time in a decade.

The provision was attached to a $138 billion spending bill funding U.S. health, labor and education programs, which the Senate was expected to pass later on Wednesday.

2. IMHO, I think this signals a sea-change in the repuke party.....
at one time they thought bush* was invincible and they could screw the American people over and over again, but now with bush*'s numbers going down, they are like rats deserting a sinking ship.

Hopefully by 2004 they will attain hurricane velocity and sweep this entire corrupt Rethug crew out of Washington back to the swamps from which they crawled. All I know is if the Rethugs in the House try to undo what the Senate has done, then Denny Has"been"tert should get ready to hand over the speaker's gavel.

5. As a grad student
Let me say:

PRAISE THE LAWD!!!

Becuase it would be just my luck that my financial aid would get cut just as I'm about to finish, thus making me cut back my classes and taking me longer to graduate.
