House Republicans Blast Iraq Policy Critics
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group of House of Representatives Republicans said on Wednesday that Democrats criticizing the Bush administration's plan to stabilize Iraq were damaging that effort and endangering U.S. troops.

But as administration officials lobbied for an $87 billion spending package largely for Iraq, some Republicans questioned whether the State Department should take a larger role in Iraq's reconstruction and whether Baghdad should have to pay back some of the money.

Rep. Ed Schrock of Virginia told a news conference that "all the sniping we've been hearing on TV about the president and how he's handling the situation ... plays into the hands of the enemy."

He said the nine Democrats running for president were "trying to make this look like the worst thing that's ever happened. Frankly this administration has done a magnificent job and more people need to come out and say that."

1. Republicans doesn't care about accountiablity
and they won't. More example of why we need fiscal conservativism, and Democrats has shown to be an excellent example of one!

4. This "either you are with us or you are with the terrorists" crap will not
fly anymore. They know it but they still cannot control themselves. First rummy said it yesterday now the house repukes today. Rove must have sent that memo out yesterday and the repukes are quoting it verbatim. Too bad it is not working anymore. I think the Dem debate last night was a good thing because more voters got to see them bash bush* as they have never heard him being bashed before.

5. You're right
This "shut up and wave the flag" shit won't fly this time as Bush isn't being treated with kid gloves, the candidates won't shut up the anti-Bush rhetoric, and people are angry and waking up. A push to shut up critics could easily backfire right now.

It was the damn republicans and their president who were cutting Veteran Benefits across the board and reducing payraises for soldiers, NOT DEMOCRATS!

Let me at 'em, I would love to debate any of 'em , except I would hate to get into a battle of wits with unarmed opponents, lol...

13. “Having gathered all power to itself, [the State]....
has become the sole focus of all conflict, and it must construct totalitarian defenses to match its total exposure.”

Anthony de Jasay (1925-)
French Political Philosopher and Author

I believe Thomas Jefferson would be spinning in his grave if he knew what the 40th after him was doing....

“Peace. . . has been our principle, peace is our interest, and peace has saved to the world this only plant of free and rational government now existing in it. . . However, therefore, we may have been reproached for pursuing our Quaker system, time will affix the stamp of wisdom on it, and the happiness and prosperity of our citizens will attest its merit. And this, I believe, is the only legitimate object of government and the first duty of governors, and not the slaughter of men and devastation of the countries placed under their care in pursuit of a fantastic honor unallied to virtue or happiness; or in gratification of the angry passions or the pride of administrators excited by personal incidents in which their citizens have no concern.”

24. seems to me that the * misadministration has been
wasting American lives (and any others that stand in their way)

remember this?

http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/12/06/inv.ashcroft.hearing/

"To those who pit Americans against immigrants, citizens against non-citizens, to those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve," Ashcroft told the Senate Judiciary Committee. "They give ammunition to America's enemies and pause to America's friends. They encourage people of good will to remain silent in the face of evil.

"Our efforts have been crafted carefully to avoid infringing on constitutional rights, while saving American lives."

If it wasn't for "bulk buying", Ann's new book "Treason" would be long forgotten by now.

These Republicans are six months too late on the "treason" spin.

Next they will be promoting a boycott of The Dixie Chicks! :eyes:

28. Who the hell do they think they are? The arrogant S.O.B.s.
Edited on Wed Sep-10-03 07:48 PM by screembloodymurder
They work for us (300 million of us) and as one of those paying their salaries, I feel entitled to a few honest answers.

First question: Why did we publicize Shock and Awe? I mean why give the enemy our battle plan? Irrational exuberance?

Second question: Did you ever stop to think what Saddam would do when confronted with an overwhelmingly superior force? Like maybe, putting up token resistance (How many jet fighters did they put in the air?), going into hiding (Where is Saddam anyway?), letting us blow the place to smithereens and then; picking us off, one by one, as we try to pick up the pieces.

Third question: Did it ever occur to you that the cost to rebuild Iraq was directly proportional to the cost of destruction? Shock and awe for Iraq has become “Shock and Ouch” for the American taxpayer. Was all that “Awe” really necessary or was it just for effect?

Forth question: Where are those WMD?

Fifth question: Why did we invade Iraq? I know you told us, but it just seems the reasons they are a changing. Let see, it was a preemptive strike to spread freedom and democracy? Or was it theocracy? Oil oligopoly? No, no, I remember. We just wanted a centrally located, neutral field where we could invite all the terrorists to give us their collective best shot.

Sixth question: How are we doing? I mean you want me to help raise 87 billion dollars w/o an explanation?

Last question: If this UN thing doesn't work, may we have your resignations. We'll give you till 2004.

30. My comment continues to be
while these squatters in the White House are doing such a "magnificent job", they are putting us in danger. As the Congress approves their $$87$$$ billion shopping spree, we are moving towards being wiped out financially. We're short-staffed in Iraq. We can't spare any troops, they are all spoken for.

They are putting us in a very vulnerable position, militarily. Not all countries are our friends!!! There may even be some who are watching (with disbelief, I might add), and wondering if the US is becoming vulnerable.

How many billions will we spend next year in Iraq? We can't afford to throw more money down this black hole. I don't think they know what to do next.

These guys are the real enemies.

32. Bush plays into the hands of the enemy.
Bush is the perfect person to have in the Oval Office if you're Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein. Bush alienated our allies, over-committed our troops in a quagmire for no reason, and is now spending U.S. taxpayers into the poor house. Bush and his crooked sponsors really bring out the worst in America, and that's just what the terrorists want.
