Lott: Replace defense chief

SPEECH

Lott: Replace defense chief

By MELISSA M. SCALLAN

BILOXI - U.S. Sen. Trent Lott doesn't believe Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should resign immediately, but he does think Rumsfeld should be replaced sometime in the next year.

"I'm not a fan of Secretary Rumsfeld," Lott, R-Mississippi, told the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday morning. "I don't think he listens enough to his uniformed officers."

...

Lott said the United States needs more troops to help with the war. The country also needs a plan to leave Iraq once elections are over at the end of January.

Lott doesn't think Rumsfeld is necessarily the person to carry out that plan.

"I would like to see a change in that slot in the next year or so," Lott said. "I'm not calling for his resignation, but I think we do need a change at some point."

20. That's what I hear
Several Mississippian repubs I know are still upset about the fact that Bushco did nothing to try to defend Lott. They are starting to see that Bushco engineered this whole fiasco when the opportunity presented itself. Yet, they still support their commander-in-thief and wave their american flags next to their confederate flags on their pick-up trucks.

3. Rummy's days appear to be numbered.
I think Bush wants to keep him on through the Iraqi elections and then let him go.

4. Translation...
"We Repukes will divert attention from our evil ways as we get closer to the 2006 midterm elections. America will see us a righteous because we will condemn a high-ranking official (Rummy), which will show the voters that we really have their best interests at heart. We will eat our own if necessary because we know that polls show that Rummy is a disaster. The little people will send us their campaign donation money if we pretend to agree with them.

28. here's an anti-rummy letter to send out

Mr. Rumsfeld must go. Not later: NOW. He has absolutely no respect for the citizens of the USA, nor of the world.

He is wanted as a war criminal in Germany.

He signs letters to families of OUR dead soldiers with a computerized, automatic name-signing program.

He has refused us seeing the caskets of OUR dead.

He has been responsible for Iraqis being tortured. He is responsible for the torture which has taken place at Guantanamo Bay. These events did not happen randomly; they were ‘OK’d’ by the top brass.

More than 5500 American soldiers have deserted the Armed Forces. They are filling up the homeless shelters in Canada as well as the US.

There are more amputations associated with this war than any other.

OUR soldiers are not even accorded decent equipment. They ask questions about why they have to ‘make-do’ by digging for scrap metal in order to protect their vehicles in order that they not be blown to smithereens---or become amputees.

They are required to stay in Iraq past their ability to endure if some members of their company remain there.

THIS MUST STOP.

He has deeply offended many Americans: we want him OUT NOW.

33. MMMMM... that's what I thought, too -- the triangulation thing, again
Create fake dissent, so it can look like the GOP has a faction that is pissed because "Rumsfeld doesn't support the troops, enough." That way, in case any freeptard accidentally grows a brain, they can just point to Lott to ratoinalize it for himself. This is step two. The first was detracting from the question by attacking the mode of the question. Everything is perfect. They are evil geniuses. It is a thing to behold.

6. If you are going to plan on bringing home the troops after Jan elections
why do you need more troops now? What are they going to do in the next 3 weeks?

9. They DON'T plan on bringing them home after Jan elections
The Pentagon said last week they "hope" to bring the troops home by 2008.

The US Military JCS say they "hope" by 2014.

Dunno why so many Americans think bush plans on withdrawing our troops after the Jan elections -assuming there are any Jan elections.

26. It's been whispered
Bush has been asking Rummy to resign, off the record.. Rummy refuses.
He won't call for an offical resignation because he admitts by doing so he was wrong about Iraq. Rummy refuses, one of the henchmen for the neo-con party, he refuses to admitt he was wrong.

Therefore it's left to Other repukes to bark him out of office. Notice McCain (not that he liked him anyway).. the other guy that came out yesterday S'something name escapes me atm. Now Lott.

Lets see who else comes out barking today.

So if Dems eat their own, it's certain that repukes do as well.

I wish the whole damn party would resign!

7. They control the world.....................
now, with no opposition, they'll start eviscerating their own. They have to have an enemy, they need to demonize and attack someone at all times. Since there is no competition from the left, they'll cannibalize each other just to keep their game sharp. It will be a lovely thing to witness.

11. "He's doing a fabulous job, and America's lucky to have him..." said bush
Just another total fuck-up by bush.

Everything bush touches = one massive fuck-up.

bush's entire life = one massive fuck-up.

It's hard work being the total fuck-up bush is.

It's even harder work being part of that incredibly small fringe minority in the world (rightwingnuts) who don't realize bush = a total fuck-up.

39. Rumsfeld is a deluded bureaucrat, but I think Wolfowitz is worse.
I've researched this man, and I am convinced that he is dangerous.

Wolfowitz is an ideologue, who has a documented history of selectively interpreting empirical evidence according to his global ambitions. Like Kissinger, he seems to play geopolitics as some sort of academic sociological exercise, ignoring ethics and coldly rationalizing the value of human lives.

40. Paul Wolfowitz has been called the 'most dangerous man on earth' by
a number of people. He had the gall to admit that they WMD story was pure bull but it was the most politically expedient, the one story that would delude this country into going to war.
