Kennedy Matriarch Backs Republican Schwarzenegger - Yahoo

"I think he'd be a very good governor. He's been committed to people all his life, since the day he first arrived here, he's been a success with people," Shriver, 82, told reporters before Schwarzenegger met with experts on education policy.

Shriver is mother of Maria Shriver, Schwarzenegger's television newscaster wife who just this week kicked off solo campaigning for the bodybuilder-turned-actor's run for governor.

"I think he'd be a very good governor because he is interested in all of these kind subjects, particularly subjects that pertain to children," the elder Kennedy said in her first public appearance of the campaign.

Arnie must be in some kind of hurt if he has to have Maria and her mom help bail him out of this mess.

1. this is disappointing
I have great admiration for Eunice Kennedy Shriver and I guess maybe she had no choice. But I wish she had stayed uncommitted.

3. It's all a game!
Those in politics see it as a game, those who are not in it (like myself) see the Nazi power grab in California as undermining Democracy. If pols saw it this way, there'd be outrage. Apparently they don't see it this way.

2. Are all the Kennedy women on drugs??
...otherwise I cannot account for their behavior...I can't imagine they are that stupid - it has to be some kind of pharmaceutical stupor or something.

4. My first instinct was "oh for the love of..." and rolling my eyes
but the more I think about it...

My mom and dad are helping us out with a fundraising picnic next month (details soon, BTW). My dad is politically interested, but my mom is doing this because it's her son-in-law.

6. You may be right, I think Maria and her mom are doing this out of
loyalty to Arnie. I would think that any wife and mother-in-law would support their guy. I wonder how they really feel about all this? I got a certain vibe when I saw Maria standing next to Arnie when he talked to the media after he had announced. I did not think she looked as happy as she should. IMHO

10. This is news???
Eunice supports her son-in-law. What would be news is if she didn't.

12. Of course, Eunice endorsed her son
Mark Shriver when he ran against Chris Van Hollen in the Democratic primary in Maryland's 8th congressional district. Mark is a nice guy but he lost to the better candidate. Chris went on to defeat the very popular Republican candidate.

Eunice also supported her niece Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who was the Democratic candidate in the gubernatorial race in Maryland. KKT lost to the Republican Ehrlich.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Arnold will win either.

15. Not to be rude to Mrs Shriver, but
Doing a movie about kindergarten, and funding family-friendly programs are two different things. I know of no repub that is family-friendly. All the programs are being cut.

Does Arnold speak in anything besides pre-rehearsed, two sentence sound bytes?

17. Somehow,
when I read Kennedy Matriarch,Ethel came to my mind. I didn't think she would do such a thing though. My guess is Eunice is doing it because he's her son-in law.

18. Family members endorse family members.
It's life. Howard Dean comes from a Republican family, I'm sure his family is working on HIS campaign. It wouldn't really be prudish if she came out against her daughers HUSBAND, right?

19. The next family gathering at Hyannis
will certainly be interesting.

I wonder if they'll do what my family does. We'll have a nice political discussion going and then drop it when one of the few members of our clan that has moved to the dark side wanders up to the group. (All in the interests of peace, Bush* isn't worth starting a family feud over.)
