(Zell) Miller to Honor Swift Boat Vets' Group
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 01:14 PM by RamboLiberal
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/home.pl?&&frameurl=http%3A%2F%2Fus.rd.yahoo.com%2Fdailynews%2Frss%2Fpolitics%2F%2Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fstory.news.yahoo.com%2Fnews%3Ftmpl%3Dstory2%26amp%3Bu%3D%2Fap%2F20041216%2Fap_on_go_co%2Fmiller_swift_boat

For one night only, it'll be spitballs and Swift Boats together on the same stage — a who's who of Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) bashing. The American Conservative Union on Thursday announced it has tapped Sen. Zell Miller (news, bio, voting record), D-Ga., to present the "Courage Under Fire" award to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth at the Conservative Political Action Conference's Feb. 16 banquet.

Miller and the group of Vietnam veterans were behind perhaps the campaign's two fiercest and most memorable attacks on Kerry's unsuccessful presidential bid.

Miller, who is retiring next month, scorched Kerry in a Republican National Convention keynote address in which he suggested the four-term Massachusetts Democrat had voted to cut so many weapons systems, it appeared he wanted to send the military to war with only spitballs.

If I say what I'm feeling right now - I could get arrested. Why the hell didn't the Dems kick this bastard out of the party!!!!!!

66. And to think that Zell was a hero to conservative Democrats on this board
when he connived with AIPAC and the GOP to defeat Cynthia McKinney in 2002 using her protege Denise Majette. At least we got our Cynthia back in Congress!

Zell should be on meds!

5. WTF???
I thought there was nothing Zell could do to make me hate him more. He just did.

Remember, Paul Begala still calls Zell Miller a friend. He also says that he had more friends in * campaign than in Kerry's camp. Begala needs to speak out about this or admit he's not on our side.

132. Add O'Reilly to that mixture and it could be a new porn book . . .
he could write.

Pervert! And so is Faux News for hiring an obviously demented man who is showing some signs of Alzheimer. Of course, O'Reilly is a sex addict, Sean Hannity is a pathological liar, Greta Van Sustrand is a Scientologist, and Alan Colmes just shows up to get paid.

Have you noticed that on Faux News Network that ALL of their so-called expert commentators have had scandals in their past like Ollie North, Newt Gingrich, and Dick Morris of all people.

Dysfunctional people for a dysfunctional network.

"They report, and still they lie."

I tuned into Faux News just long enough last night to hear him bellyaching about Chevy Chase calling Busco a dumb f&&K.

"No conservative has ever used vulgar language with a Democrat," claimed O'Reilly.

I guess the word FUCK isn't a "bad word" when Cheney uses it.

BTW, the American Conservative Union is the group that first introduced us to Paula Jones. :puke:

94. My Thoughts Exactly
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 05:45 PM by Crisco
I don't know too much about Zell beyond his conservative bent as a Dem.

Okay he wanted GW to win the election, we get that. He believed, he said, he needed to put his convictions ahead of his party. We get that, too. Don't like it, but get it.

But to turn around and be seen presenting this award to a group of people who lied through their teeth to the US people, blantantly subverting the democratic process, well, so much for convictions.

It's tossing away whatever legacy he had as a statesman, that's just something a smart politician does, not even upon retiring.

He's really gone crackers. Why isn't his family trying to talk him out of this?

158. So, being old makes you beyond criticism?
I don't care if he's old. I don't care if he's young. I don't care if he walks with a limp, or is hard of hearing or hears voices telling him to devour opossums when the moon is full. I don't care if he's kind to animals or drops off Easter baskets at orphanages.

What I care about is his getting up on national television and spewing venomous lie after venomous lie about an honorable man who did nothing to Zell Miller, except (apparently) to exist.

What I care about is his flagrant disregard for simple decency, and his willingness to hurl great dripping handfuls of slime at whatever frayed, tattered little fragments of democracy remain in this country.

He hates his own party, his own party's candidate and much of what this country stands for, so I'm hating him back. Maybe that's what he's after, and maybe it isn't. Whatever the case, he earned it, and if you have a problem with that, tough.

123. Yes, I've known several people for years who got into this type of
ranting and right-wing thinking and rages. Soon after they started doing that I noticed that they got obsessed by all this and couldn't think about anything else.

Then, after while, I learned they were diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Not somebody who's been like this all the time, but rather someone who was relatively normal and then went right-wing bonkers.

After SBVT attacks started, the percentage of Americans believing John Kerry "could not be trusted" went up over 15% and those believing he had not served honorably in Vietnam went from single digits to over 30%. His poll ratings dropped by 5% the week the ads started. Deny the truth, blame fraud, but it won't help you.

I am sick and tired of democratic candidates that are in the palms of the DLC and carter solely to the so-called independents/moderates. I want a firebrand democrat eager and willing to trade fire for fire and no less. Kerry had his turn and missed the chance to clobber this lame brained impostor. It is now time for another person to pick up the mantle of the true democrats - IMHO.

The Swiftboat Liars for Bush had their evil effect, granted. I still think it played to the dumbest and most uninformed Americans. They had not a shred of credibility.

And polls be damned...I stand by what I said: Bush had the stupid vote locked up. If it hadn't been the Swiftliars, it would have been the ad where Bush was hugging the little girl on 9/11, or the "I'm optimistic" bullshit ad. Anybody who was dimwitted enough to fall for them was a solid Bush voter. They refuse to pay attention.

In fact, I was born in Saudi Arabia.

I reiterate, there are a lot of really, really stupid and gullible people out there. Rove had his hand on the collective pulse.

The people who voted for Bush were, in no particular order:

1. Ignorant
2. Afraid

160. Don't forget "set in their ways."
I suspect a fair number of Bush voters, particularly in places like South Carolina, live by the "vote for the devil you know" mantra. Incompetence, ignorance, and outright mendacity are no encumbrance to the incumbent. Add to that a knee-jerk aversion to anyone with a Northeastern accent, successful labeling of Kerry as a wealthy elitist, xenophobia and misogyny where Teresa Heinz Kerry is concerned, and fear of liberals, and you have the perfect storm of Idiotic Voting Habits.

151. the swifties being discredited was mentioned only briefly,
and superficially at best, in the mass media.

The lies however have been all over the media for many days if not weeks.

So the discrediting didn't neutralize the notion that many people had gotten that "Kerry can't be trusted".

That's one way in which the media are being used to fabricate public opinion.

122. Here in Tennessee, the State GOP Executive Committee just
past a decision that the party would actively work against and Republican who voted for the Democrat, John Wilder, as majority Leader of the State Senate.

The Republicans just won a majority and though john Wilder has been power sharing with them for more than 20 years, committee chairmanships in proportion to their representation in the State Senate, now that they're in the majority they want to take total control!

I read that article today and frankly couldn't imagine the Democrats doing something equivalent, even to Zell Miller!

Then I come here and find this. Sigh!!

We've got to learn to rape and pillage.

24. This man is beyond evil
and that is an understatement. He isn't a dem. I don't know what he is.

Is he going to honor Kerry too? After all, he was the captain of a swift boat.

There is no bottom to the republican smear machine. They are completely without morals. If anyone thinks for a moment that these fiends would give a rats ass about genocide of Americans, rounding up all us fags and shooting us like dogs in the street, or executing all non violent drug offenders, they are delusional.

America is doomed. It's going to be a short trip downhill unless we are able to turn it around.

Words can't express the sheer disgust that i feel. To me this act is akin to the medial establishment honoring Dr. Mengele. It doesn't make sense, and is just designed to rub salt into the wounds. Something that the republicans wouldn't hesitate to literally do in a second.

I don't know where our country went so wrong. Nixon? Reagan? How did we get so far off course? We are governed by superstition and fear. There will be no progress until this mindset is changed. We can only moving backwards until that time.

Our economy is destroyed. We're on the cusp of turning out millions of seniors out onto the streets by denying them their social security that they are due. Social security is one of the best government programs that we have, and the republicans are going to destroy it with a sneer on their faces. Looking at them is looking at the mask of sheer evil.

What drives such acts of hatred? I don't understand it. I really don't.

97. Here's what I found about SS payments getting taxed

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/tips/20010115a.asp
Some Social Security benefits may be taxable

The base amounts for figuring possible tax liability on benefits are:

* $25,000 for single, head of household, or qualifying widow or widower with a dependent child.
* $25,000 for married individuals filing separately and who did not live with their spouses at any time during the year.
* $32,000 for married couples filing jointly.
* $0 for married persons filing separately who lived together.
($0 sounds a lot like a happy marriage foul)

http://www.snopes.com/cgi-bin/news/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000003

From Snopes:
Q: Which party put a tax on Social Security?
A: The Democratic party.
FALSE

Actually, it was Ronald Reagan, a Republican, who signed a bill taxing
Social Security benefits.

Q: Which party increased the tax on Social Security?
A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.

TRUE

Both parties are guilty of stiffing the elderly.

116. You express my mood exactly.
Five years ago I was looking forward to even a more progressive country under President Gore. Now things are really in the toilet and the republicans are shitting even bigger turds. I have family in Europe and they claim their affection for the US has never been lower and they hate Bush. The redstates-ostrich-fundies here refused to believe this. Personally, and this is probably dangerous to write, I feel the time is right for an attack/invasion on our soil by North Korea & China. With most of our fighting force in Iraq/Afghan and with billions of men in Asia ready to die what will stop them? We would have to defend Washington & Alaska with home guards! We would have to saturation-bomb the northwest to rid the area of invaders (that was the Bush plan in Fallujah, no?) And who would allign themselves with us? Canada? I doubt it - they resent us too. I suppose Bush would need gays then, huh? "Hey you fags - if you fight I wont push for a marriage ban anymore. Please, pretty please." Oh, thanks Dubya.

They should hold a press conference each month when it's awarded to give it a lot of publicity. 92. Wow today is Angry day
I already got extremely mad at a conservative today now I'm doing it twice.

Today in my regional newspaper there was an article on putting "christ back in christmas"
here's an excerpt

"Their is a revival going on in our nation that is causing christian, right minded people to say, 'wait a minute. We've gone too far,'" says the Rev. Patrick Wooden Sr., pastor of the Raleigh church. "WE're not going to allow the country to continue this downward spiral to the left."

Now smell miller (can't think of a better insult now sorry) is being a conservative idiot. I think I will burst from all this rage.

If he wants to be a republican, why doesn't he just change parties? Its not a hard transition. You just start saying you go to church every Sunday, and that you want to privatize everything. You must denounce gays, abortion and the aclu. Then your a republican. Its really that simple.

a small minded, small hearted, ignorant, fear and hate-monger who is a Democrat in name only. IMHO the sooner he switches to the Republican party, the sooner I can start thinking about switching my registration from green to Democrat. And if I said all that feel about this alleged man I would be arrested. There.

If he has any thought of running again in 2008, he best show them he means business. If not, he can forget about 2008 because this will come up again and again. He promised to fight back, well, nows the time.

134. The SB Liars were mocked and laughed out of town 30+ years ago...
and with rightwingnuts being so much more stupid nowadays than they were back then, the SBLiars got lucky; this time the rightwingnuts were stupid enough -especially idiots like Hannity- to fall for the lies.

And you really do have to be incredibly stupid to have fallen for that old bullshit from O'Neil.

Hell, even Bill O'Reilly called the SBLiars a pack of total liars.

None of them served with Kerry and they call him a liar; they are proven liars and all those who DID actually serve with Kerry call Kerry a hero.

If it makes rightwingnuts feel good about themselves for lying and denigrating and smearing and mocking a United States Military Veteran, no problem. It shows the whole wide world exactly what rightwingnuts are.

144. WHYoh WHY havent the Dems gone after Zell with both barrels???
One of the things that REALLY disapoints me about the democratic party is that they hanvent gone after Zell with no mercy! They should have gone on every airwave and print media and say that he does not represnt the democratic party and he is no democrat! They should open his right wing voting record and hang him with it. He has done nothing but take a shit on everything the democrats try to work for and frankly its gone beyond the last straw with zell.
DEMOCRATS: Hasnt zell done enough damage?

171. It looks too mean-spirited to attack someone obviously deranged
People would sympathize with him, like they did with Charlton Heston after F9/11 came out and it was obvious that Heston's Alzheimer's was a lot worse than had been reported at the time.

It's best to let the loonies rant and froth and just kind of ignore them like the crazy guy on the bus. Zell needs medication, not full-frontal assault.

147. No way.
Zell is clearly horribly disturbed. To associate himself with a slanderous, and already fully debunked group of corrupt liars is just one in a series of odd, irrational behaviors this man has displayed. It doesn't surprise me though, not from him. Why does he even call himself a Democrat? What exactly is Democratic about him again? I swear he does it just to be obnoxious and taint the party with his name and his hare-brained antics. The man is totally unstable.

Observe how our Democratic blood boils at the sight and sound of this freak. If only the GOP had a few more of these jerks working for them, we'd take to the streets and take the country back by hand. What is wrong with the DNC, allowing this person to even remotely be considered a Democrat.

Smell Miller sent my little girls running from the room in horror when he pulled his foaming at the mouth speel at the GOP convention. This man terrifies innocent children.

So now Fox can have " The Zell and Dennis Miller Show." Just like the Smothers Brothers used to have a cutting-edge show with a liberal slant, this Fascist-lite group will now have an outlet for their wit and humor, featuring The Joe McCarthy Singers and The J. Edgar Hoover Dancers.Guest appearance by George "Pinhead" Bush, who will recite the text of My Pet Goat.Later, a black person will tapdance. For the grand finale of the show's premier, "Pinhead" Bush will have his entire Cabinet do tricks at his command, to a jazz background. A good time will be had by all.

172. Swift Boat Vets story was at the top of the front page of the St. Louis
Post Dispatch today. Today! Apparently Hoffman? is from St. Louis. The lead in was that the Swift Boat Vets had "won" but that Kerry was a cagey guy and might try to run again so they had to stay vigilant or some crap close to that in meaning. He needs to sue these guys until they are standing on a sidewalk somewhere with no home and no prospects wearing a barrel with straps. The article noted that they had changed the name of the group to POW's for Truth.
