NYT - Lapses Feared in 2000 Vetting of Kerik
Lapses Feared in 2000 Vetting of Kerik
By KEVIN FLYNN and WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM

Published: December 17, 2004

In the days since Bernard B. Kerik withdrew his nomination as homeland security secretary late last week, the city's Department of Investigation has grown increasingly concerned about possible lapses in the background check it conducted on him before he was appointed New York's 40th police commissioner in 2000.

The agency said in a statement yesterday that it has been unable to find any evidence that Mr. Kerik had filled out a background form, as usually required, before his appointment to the post by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. Officials are also interviewing employees and searching for records that might explain why a body of uncomplimentary information the agency had learned about Mr. Kerik was apparently never considered by City Hall before his appointment in August 2000.

...

If Mr. Giuliani's recollection is correct, the department's decision not to inform him raises questions about the management of information in his administration.

"That would be highly unusual," said William B. Eimicke, a professor of public administration at Columbia University. "It's hard to imagine how that would happen, that they wouldn't have passed that information to City Hall. Whether the commissioner would have communicated it directly to the mayor or not is a wholly different question."

7. Yes, and they built a straw house on the bodies of nearly 3000 victims
of 9/11. The winds are beginning to blow.

16. He didn't "move into" that apartment overlooking

WTC. That apartment was "donated" for the use of rescue workers to rest. Kerik used it for other purposes.

It was not his apt., and he didn't move in. The person who donated the USE of the apartment is not pleased to learn how it was used.

21. Yup. I think that's the deal. He wasn't vetted properly because anyone

who had said something opposed to something the dictator wanted would have either been fired outright or had seen his job career in politics (and probably in the upper eschelons of big business) stalled out. Anything critical of Bush is evil liberal propaganda to him and his whackos. Sychophants are all the rage nowadays. Not competant leader types.

8. Didn't I read that Alberto "I love torture" Gonzalez vetted Kerik?
Am I mistaken?

What will Kerik's revenge be for dragging his dirty laundry through the streets of America? I wonder ...

9. What the hell is this really all about? This guy's life is like a
Pandora's box of bad juju and no one I mean no one had a clue until right this minute? I just read something that alleges that the nanny did not exist. There is more to this than meets the eye.

10. I bet there was no Nanny. Bernie and Bush lied to cover up the real
truth that Bernie is an unqualified, lying, criminal, lecherer and another idiot.

12. There might've been. Neighbors said they saw someone...
but the question IS...how old was she? If she was a Minor...could explain why no one's talking.

13. Kerik is now officially the worst nominee
in recent times. Stellar asterisk on the career plan now for him and a whole bunch of incompetent folks associated with this debacle.

19. Actually getting this nomination was the worst thing that ever happened to
this dude. He was all good with his mob buddies, crony stock deals and assorted affairs and crookedness until the light of publicity was shone on him...
