GOP senators hammer Rumsfeld on lack of armor
There is dissent in the Republican ranks as several GOP senators openly question the Secretary of Defense's management of the war and his controversial remark to troops last week. Can we expect his immediate resignation as an early Christmas gift?

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is drawing increasingly heavy fire from fellow Republicans over the lack of armored Humvees and transport trucks for the troops in Iraq, but the White House on Thursday defended the Pentagon boss.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Rumsfeld in a tough letter: "I'm very concerned that it appears the Pentagon failed to do everything in its power to increase production of the vehicles."

Collins, a GOP moderate, criticized as "troubling" Rumsfeld's remark last week to a Tennessee National Guardsman in Kuwait that "you go to war with the Army you have. They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later date."

The troops in Iraq "deserved a far better answer than that flippant response," Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., declared.

Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said Rumsfeld ought to be replaced at the Pentagon.

"I'm not a fan of Secretary Rumsfeld," Lott told the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. "I don't think he listens enough to his unformed officers."

1. As though the flapping of lips
by some paleocons will have any net effect on the neocons.

I am a little surprised at Lott joining in -- I guess it's payback for the administration not backing him up.

Rummy the Dummy isn't going anywhere. Besides we would only get worse -- some idiot who thinks that Rummy isn't tough enough.

2. Can you spell "embarrassment?"
Can you spell "embarrassment?" Or how do the Republicans tell their constituents back home that they, too, don't know what's going on when they vote for these large $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ appropriation bills for so-called military expense!

Where's the cameras? C-Span! Speech! Speech! Put out a press release. Do a mailing back home. Call for a *study.* Call a congressional investigation, because those Republicans have to cover their asses (yet, again)!

. . . . . . . . .

3. Just sit back, everyone.
It's fun to watch all these scandals and stupidity unfolding. And before the second term even happens.

Bushie won't make it through his second term. It'll be filled too much with scandals that will come to light. Then, it's the end of the Repug party as we know it.

4. Stand by your man, Dubya, stand by your man
The more Bush defends Rumsfeld, the more he will reveal himself as the unfeeling SOB he truly is.
