Former President Bill Clinton will begin his long-awaited trip to help Gov. Gray Davis fight off the recall election by joining Davis at church services Sunday in south-central Los Angeles, aides to the governor said Wednesday.

3. I strongly believe..
that if anyone can pull Davis' ass out of the fire, it's Bill Clinton. He is beloved in that state.

4. Good for Bill and good for Davis,
this should help bring out the base for the recall vote.

5. Thank god, I was wondering if we were going to run scared here
and protect our privileged asses like we do on everyting else. Dems better realize that if they can't hold on to liberal California it sends a message all over this land that we are still the losers of 2002 and a laughing stock. They all need their asses out there.

6. I really think that it will help Davis
pull out of this. I hope Clinton directly confronts how the RW is trying to hijack democracy in this country through recalls and redistricting.

This comment in the article gave me pause, though.

"Other than himself and his wife and maybe (Connecticut Sen.) Joe Lieberman, Davis is the standard bearer for them and his defeat would be a big loss for that segment of the party," Janiskee said.

Is Clinton still tight with Lieberman? Do you think that's who he'll back in '04?

8. recall
I am glad Clinton is going out there. It isn't about Davis or Clinton. It is about the Repubs trying to take over in such a dirty manner. That is what Clinton will get across to Californians, I hope. I personally don't think Clinton will endorse Lieberman. I think he is seeing a Lieberman he really never knew.

12. Clinton will support whoever the nominee is
BTW, this election is not a referendum on centrist Democrats. Davis is not unpopular because he's a moderate. And the recall's about overturning an election the GOP didn't like, just like with impeachment. BTW, since Davis is already trailing, even if the recall passes it won't reflect on the Big Dog.

7. I have to try to meet him...
or at least see him from across some crowded event. He's not perfect, but he is a hero to the hard working people of this country who benefited from the greatest economic expansion in our history during his two terms in office.

Is that selfish? I promise to take the digital and post on DU as soon as I return.

13. I voted already absentee!
I hope I don't regret my vote - NO on the recall; YES on Bustamante (who I really don't care for ...) *sigh*

I hope Bill Clinton can rally up enough support so Gray Davis can rightfully keep his job!
