Bayh joins chorus for Rumsfeld’s ouster

By Sylvia A. Smith

Washington editor

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should step down, Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., said Thursday, ratcheting up his criticism after thinking more about what he saw and heard in Iraq this week.

“Regrettably, I think enough mistakes have been made of enough significance that I don’t” have confidence in Rumsfeld, Bayh told NPR. “I have lost confidence in him.”

Pushed as to whether he thinks President Bush’s defense secretary should resign, Bayh paused and then said, “I do.”

White House spokesman Scott McClellan defended Rumsfeld.

Wow...that's awfully brave of Bayh. I'd think more of his concern if he'd have expressed it before Hatch of all people. The DLC sure have a brave leader in this one. Notice that he had to be "pushed" to even say it too.

9. Evan sounded like he knew he had just screwed-up...
...his chances of ever getting invited over to the WH for snacks and drinkee-poos.

Michelle Norris had to DRAG that "I do." out of him with pliers!

"Do you think Secretary Rumsfeld should resign?"

"Well, that descision lies with the President..(blah, blah, blah...).."

"Yes, I KNOW it's ultimately up to the President, but I want to know what YOUR opinion is. Do YOU think Secretary Rumsfeld should resign?"

<dead air for almost 5 seconds>

"I do."

Oh, well, Evan, guess the Xmas eve soiree over at the Bush Quarters is off now, isn't it? Never mind, Liebermann will fill you in on what you missed....

Talking about how much he supports Bush.

Seriously.

Bayh one of Faux's favorite Democrats. He appears only slightly less than Lieberman. Honest.

You hit it right on the head -- Bayh has no fire. He seems prepared and able but never inspired.

19. Where's he been? Counting all his Pharma $$$$$
He gets FAT cash from Indiana companies like Lilly and Pfizer.

He was a decent Governor, best in decades, IMO.

But....He sure as shit ain't his dad. Look up "ReTHUGlican LITE" and you'll see Evan Bayh's picture.

23. If (better yet, WHEN) Cheney resigns...
They'd probably make Condi VP. She's such a screw-up, so that deserves another raise (as BushCo rewards incompetence).

24. Rumsfeld should resign
Funny thing, watching Fox News this morning and saw Ben Stein on a panel of money and investing experts. When asked about some stock, he replied that Rumsfeld must go. The response had nothing to do with the question asked. Looks like other prominent Republicans are getting on the bandwagon.
