WP: 14 Give $250,000 To Bush Inauguration
Oil, GOP Figures Support Costly Event

More than a dozen wealthy Bush supporters -- oil executives, corporate leaders, Texas Republicans -- have donated $250,000 each to help pay for the president's second inauguration, which is shaping up as one of the most expensive.

According to a major donor list on the Presidential Inaugural Committee's Web site, 14 companies and individuals each have given $250,000, and 10 have contributed $100,000. The list, which includes all donations made as of Thursday, also shows a contribution of $25,000 and another of $50,000.

The $250,000 donors include former Enron president Richard D. Kinder, Dell Computer founder Michael S. Dell and Texas oilman and corporate takeover specialist T. Boone Pickens.

Also on the $250,000 list are ExxonMobil Corp.; Sallie Mae Inc., a Reston-based company that annually provides billions of dollars in student loans; United Technologies Corp., a unit of which manufactures Army Black Hawk helicopters; the utility Southern Co.; and Stephens Group Inc., a Little Rock venture capital company.

7. Dell Believes That Outsourcing Is The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread
And has said so publicly here in Texas.

He is a traitor to the working classes of the highest order.

Most Dell employees start as temps. Only after a trial period are they then upgraded to full employees.

This is done explicitly to "weed out" the undesirables.

During the temp period, the employees receive no benefits.

5. Is this money tax deductible?
They fight tooth and nail to avoid paying taxes where the money would have some value to the country, yet they don't mind handing out cash for such an idiotic purpose. I guess it doesn't really matter if its tax deductible as they'll get their mammon out of the pork barrel somehow.

8. Good point...the assholes won't contribute to
their country..but they will sure as hell contribute to pumping up the head goon to make a farce out of the inaugeration.

I wish we could all boycott dell and make him suffer even if he doesn't "own it anymore"!

What the hell is wrong with that asshole? I hope when bush finally goes down that mike dell and his ilk get the stench of failure permenantly tatooed on their "Greed is Good" cadavers.

10. You have a Dell?
Don't feel bad. Maybe you bought it before the outsourcing. Also, think of the thrill you will have when this one dies, and you buy a new computer that is specifically not Dell. You can even call their 800# and tell them which new computer you've bought, and why.

11. Thanks, I was thinking along those lines..
when I bought a dell..I just asked my friends what they had and did they like it? I was so naive as to the ways of "outsourcing" and ceo and founders' contributions.

I got my computer so I could find a place like DU and help in the 2002 elections.

What kind of computer do you have?

21. Compaq laptop.
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 01:47 AM by NYC
At least their customer service was not outsourced when I first got this.

The next time I buy a computer, a lot of research will have to be done regarding who is outsourcing, who is not, who is contributing large amounts of cash to whom. And lastly, who makes a good computer. :)

I hope this one holds up for a long time, but I suppose I can't expect that. I would like to buy an Apple. When I bought the Compaq, Apple was not yet fully compatible regarding worksheets. I hear they are now. As long as Apple is not outsourcing or doing other vile things, I think Apple will be my next computer. (Many years ago, I used a MacIntosh desktop, and liked it.)

9. On C-SPAN, I saw the GOP is selling tickets for seats....
as a fundraiser on public property along the inaugaral parade route for bleacher seats in areas normally reserved for public protests. The anti-war group A.N.S.W.E.R. is filing a lawsuit because they have been blocked from these areas already taken by GOP fundraiser groups setting up the bleachers so there is no more room.

:wtf:

14. sooooo....our deficit is up...
but Bush has absolutely no problem raising money for some Orwellian doubleplusbig ego parade where dissent is not welcome. He should be happy he's elected, cause who'da thunk?

17. Wow -- I normally don't get into the boycott thing
If we truly stopped buying things from companies that donate to the GOP, we would have to start taking survivalist training.

That said -- buh bye Mr. Dell.

22. My sister lives right at the bottom of the hill that the Dell compound is
on in Austin. It is a wooded hill. There is a jogging trail that goes through the woods. Along the way are spigots that automatically spray cold water when the sensors detect a jogger approaching. Sometimes his wife jogs along the road leading to the compound. She is followed by bodygaurds in Suburbans.

That is how the half that Bush calls "his base" live. Fortunately my sister is not among that crowd but almost everyone they are acquainted with is.
