UK anti-war sentiment worsens

UK anti-war sentiment worsens
From correspondents in London
December 19, 2004

SENIOR British army commanders believe popular opposition to the war in Iraq has worsened existing problems in recruiting young people for the armed forces.

"The anti-war movement is exacerbating our recruitment problems," one senior source told the The Observer newspaper.

"The effects have been particularly noticeable in Scotland, but are spreading to the north of England and we're beginning to see it as well in the west," according to the source who was not named.

Senior officers also blame the recruitment crisis on social changes, including a more mobile workforce, greater access to further education and a change in the expectations of young people, The Observer said.

1. The WAR is exacerbating recruitment problems.
It's the war that makes people not want to join the army, not the anti-war movement.

2. You beat me to it.
No one wants to die in a war, much less an ill-begotten one like Iraq.

4. they changed the story
The above link leads to:

Reverend lights candles in Iraq protest

A minister is lighting a candle for every Iraqi who has died.

I wanted to check that headline, however. What an odd headline: Iraqi Anti-War Sentiment Worsens." I don't understand the headline. Maybe "deepens" instead of "worsens" would make more sense.

5. notice they use the word 'worsens'
instead of 'increases' or something like that....constantly trying to to paint the movement as a bunch of problem hippies
