3. A collection of VP busts!
Cancel the vacation to Sorrento, honey, we're going to DC!

How about a collection of busted VPs? Many qualify. There is probably space at Guantanmo.

5. I think
The next democratically elected Democrat government (2004!) should take the cloth covering Ms. Liberty in Ashcroft's 'fraidy cathouse and drape it over Quayle's head.

6. Love the lead....
"Fairly or unfairly, former Vice President Dan Quayle never shook off a reputation for being dense. Now his head truly is made of stone."

I am sure the journalist had a blast writing that one!

9. Always thought it's in very poor taste to consent to having a bust
done before one's actual demise.....remember what happened to Margaret Thatcher's monstrous 9ft statue that was dumped on London's Guildhall?

10. Ah yes, the Republicans have so much to be proud of
Dan Quayle -- yet another model Republican.

By the way, is he taking time off from the golf course to attend his elevation to the rank of Political God ?

Wouldn't you love to see Dan-O and Chimpy square off in a debate about the future of the Republican Party?

29. I've always held the belief that Quayle was a prototype for Bush
The most powerful families in America devised a scheme to create a leader that would protect their interests and further their worldview.

A labratory was constructed under the University of Chicgos football stadium and the first edition was produced. The Forbes family got first shot at it but the result was determined to be flawed due to some external "body" errors.

Next came the Danforths. While the outer cover was fine there were so serious troubles with the operating system.

The Bush got the next crack at it and it was a mixed result from the first two tries.

In the years just after WWII it was difficult to hide the funding from the federal government so they decided to try to sell the products they had.

The Bush model help the most promise to be marketable but some design problems appeared during its "early adult" period and the model was repeatedly damaging itself. While they were confident the changes needed could be made they needed time and they needed to "probe" the market.

The Danforth/Quayle model was introduced to the market as a means to both tweak out problems as well as soften the market to be more receptive to the Bush model.

It worked.

30. The Bust was displayed backwards
with Quayle facing the wall - at least that's what Keith Olberman said last night.

BTW - the first two artists that worked on it died.

34. Um...why?
...The white marble statue will become part of a collection of vice presidential busts begun in the Senate in 1885...
Oh, that's why--it's a mandatory formality. I was afraid that maybe there was a logical reason.

If Quayle, with his verbal gaffes, spelling mistakes and penchant for the golf course, was often the stuff of comedy, his marble bust was the stuff of tragedy. The artist Frederick Hart died before completing it.
The perfect ending to a perfect political career. Par for the course when it comes to Quayle (if you'll pardon the expression).
