Bush Seeks to Toughen Anti-Terror Laws
QUANTICO, Va. (Reuters) - President Bush on Wednesday urged Congress to "untie the hands" of law enforcement by passing new anti-terrorism measures to deny bail to terror suspects, expand the death penalty, and let investigators bypass grand juries to obtain subpoenas.

The initiative is a follow-up to hotly debated "USA Patriot Act" anti-terror legislation passed after the Sept. 11 attacks, and drew fresh criticism that the administration was infringing civil liberties.

"The House and the Senate have a responsibility to act quickly on these matters. Untie the hands of our law enforcement officials so they can fight and win the war against terror," Bush said in a speech at the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia, outside Washington.

Bush spoke on the eve of the second anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

He said the Patriot Act had helped fight terrorism but remaining "unreasonable obstacles to investigating and prosecuting terrorism" should be urgently addressed.

more.

1. if this whacko 'unties the hands' of the law enforcement anymore
we'll all be in Gitmo.

I am so sick of hearing this type of rhetoric, and further, deeply concerned that people still take this dangerous freak seriously.

3. How do you make laws against "terror" anyway?
Is personifying "terror" part of this administration's Newspeak, or is that an actual, legitimate use of it?

Terror is an emotion. You can't pass laws against emotion, fight a war against emotion or suspect someone of an emotion. * is trying damn hard to do so, but it just doesn't work.

7. But it's "war" not "crime".
What is it this hour? If terrorism is a criminal act, then WTF are we doing with our military? If it's an act of war, WTF does law have to do with it? Where's "law" in Guantanimo? They're two-faced and both of them lie.

8. more in terror of this regime
At this point I am more in terror of what this regime may do to its own people.

Former U.K. cabinet minister Meacher has already revealed the whole "war on terror" was used by the neo-cons as justification for war. I wouldn't put it pass this lot to manufacture terror against Americans in order to fulfill their hateful agenda.

Everything in their actions, words (note: mama bush's remarks about why she doesn't care about body counts) and policies show that humans don't matter an iota.

The terrorists within may be as lethal as the terrorists without.
