U.S.: Drug Imports Can't Be Safe and Cheap
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) dangled his support for legalizing prescription drug imports before voters during this year's campaign, but his administration declared Tuesday it's too costly to do safely.

Is someone keeping track of the lies and broken promises for bush's second term?

13. I agree: if the foreign drugs were unsafe people would stop buying them.
But instead:

"Drug imports represent less than 1 percent of U.S. drug spending, but
the number is five times greater than it was in 2001."

the word would spread pretty fast.

7. What does it matter when you can get them all through the net as it is
Prescription or no prescription. Customs doesnt have the ability to check more than one every 10 or so incoming packages as it is.

12. Americans are buying prescription drugs in Mexico too.
I was in Tijuana earlier this year and the number of Pharmaceutical stores in the tourist areas has proliferated in the last 3 years.

These stores are very up-scale looking and sell mostly medicines.

"Ten million illegal shipments of prescription drugs worth $1.4 billion entered the United States in 2003, about half of them from Canada, the report said."

Did they say "illegal"!?!?!?!

The border patrol folks must know that Americans are going to Mexico and buying drugs and illegally trying to bring them into America.

But I doubt that they enforce this law.
