And we'll make sure Eliot Spitzer dissects every second you spent in the Bush administration letting Rumsfeld and Cheney make you their bitch, while you helplessly watched them march our sons and daughters to their death, on false pretenses, poorly equiped, and out gunned.

He earned some points from me from Gulf War I, but as far as I'm concerned he and that prick son of his are gutless pussies in my book.

That liar has to spend the rest of his life knowing that he sent people like my only child to die for lies.

But then, Powell got where he was by covering up for his friends...

26. Come on, this isn't the first time they've waved the flag
They had Shoshanna Johnson last year--the 'brave POW who was shot and captured by the vicious forces of evil.' They would have had Jessica if they could, but she wasn't doing well enough.

New Year's Eve in New York will, until we get these dipshits OUT OF GOVERNMENT, be a "OSAMA-SADDAM-911-WORLD TRADE CENTER-911-DID I MENTION 911?" event for the next four miserable years.

Keep them afraid, make them unwilling to question anything, fill them full of fake nationalism, and wave that flag. Wave, wave, WAVE!!! While they are qivering in fear and gaining false courage from faux national pride, take away their civil liberties, suppress dissent, and destroy the reputations and beat the living shit out of anyone who disagrees with their agenda.

Turn off the TV. Just say no. Don't watch the nonsense. If you've got dorky local coverage, watch that, and enjoy the provincial flavor of it all--the smaller the venue, the better.

30. Yeah... ignore it and it will go away....
Like herpes or aids. The country is infected with war fever, and it's caused 1300 local deaths, over ten thousand debilitating injuries, and that's just Americans. Among the 'unwashed heathen' the casualties are something in excess of 100,000 -but we needn't count them, right?

Powell is supposed to be an intelligent man, but he LIED to us, to the UN, on national TV. He staked his credibility and his reputation on his claims of Saddam's WMDs and link to Al Qaeda, and both turned out to be purely false. He deliberately spread this fatal affliction, so the mask is off.

Colon is a liar and a sell-out at the least, a neocon hawk in moderate's clothing at the worst. The idea of him ushering in the new year puts me in mind of the Berlin olympics, cir. latter 1930s.

37. Thank you! My thoughts exactly!
We REALLY need to complain about this.

NYC on New Years Eve is the focus of most of middle America's TV watching. Having Powell there is just TOO 'heavy-handed.'

What has happened to our country?! Don't even recognize it.

43. If enough people ignore it, it WILL go away
The Brady Bunch and the Partridge Family were once HUGE hit TV shows. Then, like many others, people STOPPED WATCHING.

If the ratings suck, they'll stop spending the big money on the ball dropping, and it will revert back to a pre-TV big city celebration, covered by the NEWS outlets, after the fact or as part of a montage. Right now, they program their whole show to the Nth degree, with specialty acts, lowest common denominator entertainment, multiple stages in different cities, all because they are counting on people WATCHING.

If there was something BETTER, either on TV, radio, or out in the real world, to do, then that show would meet the same fate as something like the Miss America Pageant....

Times change, tastes change (....to quote an old cigarette TV commercial)...

Demonizing Powell won't work. Like it or not, the country won't buy it. The country regards him as a good guy. There's no great footage of him doing anything terrible, just him doing "good" things. It's all about image. When he sat in the UN spilling that bullshit, most people were at WORK. They never saw the news, they never paid attention if they were watching, they MISSED it. They DID see him during the first Gulf War briefings, and they LIKED him. That "cut off the head and kill him" line brought the house down.

I'm not saying that your opinion of the man is invalid. All I am saying is that the country won't buy him as a bad guy, at least not yet. Maybe someday, but right now, he's a Bronx boy doing the honors on New Year's Eve. If we don't watch, maybe they'll be a little less political in their entertainment programming.

"Can anything be done without some glorification of this war and administration?"

Good point. I was in the doctor's office waiting room today. I no longer watch commercial tv, but there were two tvs blasting, Jerry Springer and the View were on. I sat near the View tv and heard them launch the next topic of discussion, "The Battle to Have a Baby."

Good GAWD. Must everything be couched in war terms now? We used to call the inability to conceive INFERTILITY.

38. Powell can wave a vial of white powder around as the ball comes down
It can be a reenactment of his most ignominious moment, the U.N. speech of lies. It would be appropriate in New York.

Better yet, demonstrators could wave these at him (baking soda would be nice), and the TV cameras. I suppose they would be arrested for being terrorists, though.

44. You gotta be frickin kidding me....
You gotta be kidding me!

We've just spent the last four years watching Colin Powell "drop the ball", as he skulks along with the Bush thugs and their ill-planned joke of a failed war. Now, we get to watch Colin literally "drop the ball" on New Year's Eve.

This must be some sort of joke.

What is this...performance art?

Will other Bush Administration officials perform visual representations of their own major failings?

Will Rumsfeld lead the New Year's parade in an unarmored Humvee and declare, "You don't start off the New Year with the parade you want. You start off the New Year with the parade that ya have!"

Will Condi and Cheney struggle to hold onto the "Curious George" balloon as it careens out of control?

Does the absurdity ever end with these people?
