AN armed gang made up of former terrorists stole up to £40million in one of the country's biggest ever bank raids.

Two managers were taken at gunpoint from their homes and forced to open the vaults of the Northern Bank in Belfast.

Police believe ex-IRA and loyalist paramilitaries have teamed up to form a gang they describe as "merciless".

TERRORIST veterans stole up to £40million from a bank, in a complex 24-hour operation, it emerged in the early hours of this morning.
