Three on trial for soldier's intentional wounding
Three to Stand Trial in Soldier's Shooting
29 minutes ago

By PATRICK WALTERS, Associated Press Writer

PHILADELPHIA - A judge on Wednesday ordered a soldier, his wife and her cousin to stand trial in an alleged plot to keep the enlisted man out of Iraq (news - web sites) by shooting him in the leg.
--
Marquise Roberts, 23, a supply specialist who had spent seven months in Iraq, was distraught about having to return to combat duty and wanted to stay with his family, authorities said.

Scott Schweiger, an attorney for Donna Roberts, said the three simply wanted to keep their family together. "Their intentions were good," Schweiger said. "The judgment was horrible."

The three suspects drove to a wooded area Dec. 14 in northwest Philadelphia, where Fuller shot Spc. Roberts once in the back of the leg with Donna Roberts' .22-caliber pistol, according to prosecutor Mark Winter.
