Libya behind plot to kill Crown Prince, say Saudis (latest update)
The Times names London accused accomplice

The Times
By Richard Beeston and Daniel McGrory

SAUDI ARABIA recalled its ambassador from Tripoli yesterday and ordered Libya’s envoy to leave Riyadh after allegations of a plot to assassinate Crown Prince Abdullah, the Kingdom’s de facto ruler. It is alleged that a Saudi exile in London was also involved.

The punitive action against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s regime is the culmination of a simmering two-year dispute between the leaders of the normally friendly Arab states.

“The procedure we took is to recall the Saudi Ambassador from Libya and ask that Libya withdraws its ambassador,” Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Saudi Foreign Minister, said. “A memorandum will be handed to the Libyan Government today.”

The move coincided with attempts by Britain and America at the United Nations to freeze the bank account and impose a travel ban on Dr Saad al-Fagih, a Saudi dissident living in London, who is accused of involvement in the plot.

2. Better luck next time...
and I sincerely mean that.
I actually have a wedding gift sent by Prince Abdullah, but I will not mourn the end of his despotic family's rule

3. I need an updated program
I mean, there are so many plots and counterplots in SA that the real news here is the fact that Abdullah has managed to survive this long. In that country it often seems as though life expectancy is inversely proportional to one's standing in the royal family.

4. Wow. So many strange angles to this one.
-Is Gaddafi really our friend?
-If so, did we have something to do with this?
-Will SA discover our involvement?
-Is Gaddafi just going off the reservation on this one?
-If so, will we let SA whack our new friend?
-Who's next in line in Libya?
