About half of the injured from Mosul attack in intensive care in Germany

Germany Nearly half the 35 injured U-S military personnel transported to Germany from the deadly attack at a base in Mosul, Iraq, are in intensive care.

<snip>

Cornum says the wounds differ from normal battle injuries because the troops in the mess tent weren't wearing their body armor when an apparent suicide bomber blew up, killing 22 people including 14 service members. Cornum says injuries range from shrapnel, broken bones and burns to a couple of amputations.

1. Purple Hearts - Back from Iraq (graphic PHOTOS of our soldiers)
it totally amazes me how many Americans have been brainwashed into patriotically sacrificing their children for the bush* boogie-man called 'terrorism'....reminds me of Vietnam, and the nixonian spin 'communism'....

This is a good Patriotic book to give to your reTHUGlican PRO-war relatives for the holidays....support this journalist's efforts...we must SEE more of this war to end it.....

4. rummy just said yesterday that this is NO BIG DEAL...compared bush*
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 04:21 PM by diamond14
carnage to your local 7-11 robbery gone bad, or a fire and other 'things that happen' in big cities....rummy says "something that one has to put into context"....hey, it's NO BIG DEAL to rummy and bush*...nothing...they don't care and neither do MOST Americans...

rummy has also previously compared this carnage to the number of car accidents in America, and a lot of other crap....the actual deaths are small, but the CARNAGE is HUGE and costly and lasts for a lifetime.....COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM in action....

rummy speaks at the DOD press briefing, yesterday
http://www.defenselink.mil/transcripts/2004/tr20041222-secdef1861.html

It is a -- it is something that one has to put into context. And I say that in respect for the military commanders on the ground, who have multiple tasks, are challenged constantly. I mean, think of the murders that take place in every major city in the world; one can say, "Well, why aren't they stopped?" Or the fires that take place and things that happen.

5. And when will they put 2600 Americans dead on 911 into CONTEXT?
How will they put 2600 US deaths on 911 into context with 100,000+ Iraqis and 1400+ US & "coalition" troops dead because of bush?

Just wondering.

11. Troops are fungibles according to Rumsfeld ....
one just like the other. Easily replaced by another.

I can hardly believe the stupidity of 59 million plus of the American People. I cry for the dead and wounded troops and the sad state of my Nation. I am ready to take to the streets to end this insanity.

14. OMG...rummy called OUR soldiers "fungibles".....where's the outrage?

I'm outraged at the lack-of-outrage......

this is going to a LONG LONG carnage....nobody seems to really care...bush* war may well end up as a perpetural war....just sort of background to our daily lives....spun into little happy scenes of soldiers flinging candy on our reTHUGlican-sponsored plasma TVs.....

forever war....

17. R called them fungible a LONG time ago - it was all over Liberal Media
Didn't you see it? The LIBERAL MEDIA was all over his 'fungible' comments when he first made them. Would have brought him down only if the 'morans' had a dictionary to look up its' meaning.

of us as a people.

6. some people DESERVE to be drafted
The minute someone figures out a way to institute a chickenhawks-only draft, I'll support it wholeheartedly. It would be very pleasurable to watch those purple-heart-bandaid dimwits get dropped into a war zone.

13. There's something very wrong with the bushCartel & bushbots.
I mean they are so far beyond mere "souless" and "sociopath".

This is the same callous total lack of respect for life mass-murderer Richard Speck had.

I just cannot understand this kind of attitude -THANK GOD! I don't want to ever be able to understand that kind of attitude. Would bush or Rumsfeld even care if their own spouses or children were killed in front of them??? Would they just shrug and put it "into context"???

Just...I mean...how... :wow:

2. I suppose O'Reilly & Hannity & Rummy will tell them they should
be grateful they are alive this Christmas and can continue to serve, maybe even in the lovely and exotic city of Baghdad or Mosul.

8. As long as people are dying, it's a good thing
I'm so sick of this mentality!!! We love (and I mean LOVE) to get all choked up on patriotism as the death toll mounts without ever, ever examning, questioning, and finding out why the hell we are at war in the first place!!! As long as people are dying, it is thought of as "a good and noble thing" by this stupid, stupid society and it is considered treason to ever want to question it and stop it. Our dictators can get away with as much murder as any other dictators---haven't you figured that out yet???

10. The number of dead gets lower every day.
19 U.S. soldiers were dead the day Bush left for his vacation.

The article above says 14, and I heard on the radio 13.

Interesting.

12. bush* has been doing that artfully throughout his whole illegal war
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 04:56 PM by diamond14
here's an overview:

1. DEAD Iraqis don't count (nobody knows their names anyways)
2. DEAD halliburton employees don't count (that's why we pay BIG bucks for those people, and their deaths are handled internally)
3. DEAD mercenaries don't count (hey, they never count, invisible contract assassins)
4. DEAD American soldiers who have no next of kin listed are saved for shipment at a different time (no wonder we are spending millions to refrigerate DEAD American bodies in Iraq)

Best of all....keep them alive with no brain, no eyes, no legs and shove them out the door to their families...then WOW, you don't even need to count that one....

see how easy it is....just like Vietnam...where NOBODY knew how many had died until the Vietnam Memorial Wall was built and even then, hundreds of names were added later....best to keep the numbers of American DEAD soldiers OUT OF THE AMERICAN CONSCIENCENESS...that's really the bush* way...got to keep those PATRIOTIC sacrifices coming...

15. The guard & reserve units will be their "undoing"
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 06:45 PM by SoCalDem
When "actives" are deployed, they are "from" everywhere, and their families are usually not "in touch" with each other or may not even know HOW to get in touch. BUT

when guard & reserve units are deployed, they are all from ONE community/area, and they DO know each other..

14 killed from FtBragg actives are likely to have been from 14 states, with family all over...but 14 from a guard unit are likely to be from the same town or county, and they probably have strong home-ties with families who all work together/know each other well or may even be related to each other..

There will come a time when the families will say "ENOUGH, already"...just like they did in Viet Nam..

The tragedy is that there will be no bringing back all the ones who died for NOTHING..and no way to restore the horribly wounded oones who DID come home..

Who will be chomping at the bit to hire a 23 yr old double amputee with two small kids and a wife?

Who will hire a blinded 24 yr old with only one arm?

What jobs are waiting for these soldiers who return?

How can they reclaim their futures?

16. The ones closest to the blast
...were so mangled they could not tell American from Iraqi. Once they figured out it was a vest bomb, and not a lobbed mortar, they reclassified the puddle of blood on the deck as an Iraqi and not a US soldier.

19. My heart grieves for those killed, their survivors, and the wounded: hope-
fully those upon which our troops unintentionally inflict grievious wounds and injuries also receive similar outstanding medical care.
