VOA: Howard Dean, Wesley Clark Discuss Alliance, says Report
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 04:25 PM by Born Free
A U.S. news report says the leading Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean has asked retired Army General Wesley Clark to be his vice presidential running mate, if General Clark decides not to seek the top office himself.

General (ret.) Wesley Clark
The Washington Post reports Thursday the men discussed the prospect a few days ago in California.

The newspaper says General Clark said the meeting touched on a wide range of issues, but declined further comment.

The Post quotes an advisor to General Clark as saying the former NATO commander says he has only one decision to make, and that is whether he will run for president.

Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean has emerged as a surprise front-runner in the crowded race for his party's nomination for the 2004 presidential elections. He opposed the Iraq war and has sharply criticized President Bush's foreign policy.

3. Dean & Clark would be a strong team
Dean isn't afraid to stand up for America and with Clark by his side they would have all the bases covered. I do believe they could be a winning team.

4. what lie?
I don't remeber anyone saying anything about a lie- repeating the news as it's reported is not a lie. If you prefer not to believe the reports as they are being reported that is fine, but don't accuse others of telling lies until you know for sure it is a lie.

10. I still think in the end it WILL be a Dean / Clark ticket!
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 04:49 PM by PartyPooper
If Clark enters the race, he will probably knock out some of the lower tier contenders...and, that's a good thing. He will garner much attention because of his superb qualifications...second to none. (He will even expose Junior for the fascist, idiotic, PNAC puppet that he is!)

But, Dean and Clark compliment each other so well! It would be the strongest Democratic ticket in recent memory! And, we have to have an unbeatable ticket to 'de-throne' Junior! IMHO, this IS the ticket!

6. Clark supporters have said it's a story planted by the Dean campaign
and Clark has no interest in running for anything other than the top spot. Period.

9. Clark supporters don't have the inside info regarding Clark???
There are two possible sources for that VP story: Dean supporters or Clark supporters. Do you really think Clark supporters would leak a story saying Clark wants to be Dean's VP? Give me a break. No one "runs" for VP. The whole point of that story is to make Dean appear as the inevitable nominee and marginalize Clark. No dice.

12. here's why Clark supporters might wanna leak that story
so they can then turn around and claim Dean leaked it, which proves Dean's scared of Clark.

8. The lastest new is what I reported
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 04:39 PM by Born Free
Both are within hours, I also remember seeing Clark in an interview and he said he would consider a VP position. Let's wait till next week and see what happens. It is not that unusual for politicians to float ideas to see how they go before they make a final decision. Regardless of the outcome, by having the names repeated as they are reported helps gain name recognition, right now most Americans can't even tell you who is running on the democratic side, it is only through repetton they will learn.

Looks like Clark VP talk is, shall we say, a bit premature (Harold Ickes anyone?)
