Patients jabbed with illegal botox
From correspondents in Miami
December 28, 2004
DOCTORS in the US have given patients injections of Botulinum A toxin not approved for use in humans, the US Justice Department said today, after four people who underwent the anti-wrinkle treatment were hospitalised with symptoms of botulism.

The revelation was made in an affidavit to a restraining order that prohibits two doctors and their Arizona-based companies from marketing what the justice department called “fake, unapproved and dangerous wrinkle treatments”.

The toxin is only approved for use in the anti-wrinkle Botox treatment and the Myobloc neck pain reliever.

You knew this was bound to happen!!!

1. Man I'm SO Sick Of That Frozen-Faced Paula Zahn Type Look!
Botox is the most Stepford fad I've ever heard of. It's horrible to talk to someone and the whole top third of their face doesn't move.

I could never get into putting poison in my body -- whether BoTox or silicone.

2. My father-in-law gets botox shots to stop an annoying twitch
in his eyelid. I doubt I'd go for it for cosmetic purposes; but if it brings some sort of relief, as it does in his case, I can't say it's a bad thing...

5. My Friends Get It To Look Like An Android!
no prob with medical use but sheesh...this one lady I know, she got it and had to cancel an acting job because the shit "travelled" and caused one eyelid to droop making her look paralyzed.

Then I know these people who got it done at a party, one of the guests (plastic surgeon) whips out a needle (he was drinking!) and says BOTOX ON THE HOUSE! OMG....I WOULD RUN...

7. And They Are LITTLE Lines....!
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 08:54 PM by K8-EEE
I had one android friend sit there and tell me that I "only need a little....just right here!" pointing to between my eybrows. Oh for God's sake what is so horrible about being in your 40s, it's awful these people who try to look 21 forever. CUZ THEY DON'T. But who's gonna tell them that? I guess I should since they aren't to shy about telling me about the injections I "need," lol....

10. I get it for migraines
I haven't had any in eight months (no income) and the headaches are starting to come back. Only two migraines so far this year. I used to take eight Tylenol a day for constant headaches, and would lose at least two work days a month to migraines, but Botox did away with all of them. I feel that it's a lot safer than high doses of Tylenol (and it's a hell of a lot more effective)!

The FDA hasen't approved it for migraines, probably because other drug companies would lose too much profit if they did.

4. "...and the whole top third of their face doesn't move"
Heh.

In keeping with your keen Stepford observation, we might say that botox is the perfect accessory for the soulless American proto-consumer in the Age of Bush. If the heart is not moved by pity, and the mind remains unmoved by reason...

...why should the face register anything but a joyous numbness?

3. As Baretta might say, "If you can't do the time..."
Don't do the botox. ;-)

No pity here for androids-in-training.
