Two kidnapped over Peru mine project
the peasants are rebelling against the corporations!!!

LIMA, Peru, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Around 70 peasants armed with sticks, stones and machetes who kidnapped a journalist had tied him to a post in a remote Andean village on Tuesday, accusing him of supporting a copper mining project.

In an apparent reprisal, his friends later abducted a local official who opposed mining, but no details of her fate were immediately available.

The kidnaps were the latest cases of mob justice in Peru. Police said locals fearing contamination from the British-run Rio Blanco mine project took journalist Duber Mauriola hostage on Monday morning and marched him to a remote village.

1. kidnappings of the ANTI-mine officials and persons happen a LOT more often
unless a pro- (real or accused) mine person is kidnapped, it makes no news. Chico Mendes is still considered a terrorist by the oligarchs and their supporters.
