Fire at former Sun-Times building (Chicago)

Firefighters searched the smoke-filled former Chicago Sun-Times building at 401 N. Wabash Ave. this morning, but fire officials said construction workers at the site appear to be accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.

Fire department spokesman Larry Langford told CLTV that duct-work insulation was believed to have caught fire. The fire started in the basement but heavy smoke filled the building.

Wabash Avenue, North Water Street and Kinzie Street were closed at the former newspaper headquarters, which is being demolished to make way for the Trump International Hotel & Tower high-rise. The Sun-Times vacated the building in October.

Several firefighters could be seen breaking windows from inside the building on the second and third floors. At least two firefighters were using a fire ladder to break windows on the top floor of the seven-story building, and a fire boat was at the scene on the Chicago River.

2. Yes it is. - A Landlord fire? cheap way to get rid of some glass!

But does not really help sell high rise "exclusive" condo's!
