Republican seeks 'do-over' in Washington governor's race
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 10:51 PM by zulchzulu
Maybe in the spirit of his Republican brother, the Chimp would follow with the same demand...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-12-29-governor-recount_x.htm

Snip:
Republican Dino Rossi on Wednesday urged his Democratic rival in the closest governor's race in state history to join him in calling for a revote.

"The uncertainty surrounding this election process isn't just bad for you and me — it is bad for the entire state," Rossi said, reading from a letter he said he sent to Democrat Christine Gregoire. "People need to know for sure that the next governor actually won the election."

The Gregoire camp immediately dismissed the notion that a revote might be feasible. She is scheduled to be certified as Washington's governor-elect Thursday, by a scant 129 votes out of more than 2.8 million cast.

"It's irresponsible to spend $4 million in taxpayer money on a new election just because you don't like losing this one," Gregoire's spokesman Morton Brilliant said.

7. This is rich
Imagine if the Democrats had asked the Republicans for a revote. Yeah, they obviously would have rejected the offer. Flip-flop, flip-flop, flip-flop.

9. They should read the WHOLE Rove playbook
...not just the Cliff notes.

And certainly Rossi had no compunction about claiming victory when the mandated machine recount showed his lead declining to 42. Even to the extent of naming a transition team. Calling on Gregoire to accept defeat "gracefully" - for the good of the state and the democratic process - and accusing her of a frivolous, entirely unnecessary hand-recount effort (though this scenario is exactly why that option exists in elections law).

The same guy who sent his supporters to publicly protest the recount effort by carrying signs accusing her of fraud...?!

The first time he has to say Governor Gregoire is really worth paying to hear. Wonder if he needs his blanky and a pacifier tonight?

20. If EVER there were an election that should've been voided, Florida 2000
... was the one. There's NO WAY electors from Florida should've been accepted. No way. That would've done more to light fires under the asses of state elections officials and the electorate than 100 HAVA's.

Whine, bitch, complain, pout as much as you wish. Until you put up the big bucks necessary to contest,...you will still be the sore loser that you prove yourself to be.

I am so glad my fellow Washingtonians hung in there.

18. Sounds like Dino needs a new nappy!
"People need to know for sure," Mr. Rossi? We DO know for sure -- that's why we counted the ballots. Yes, it's a very close result, but confidence is high that it is an accurate count. And trust us, Mr. Rossi, we all remember how gracious YOU were when the preliminary count was favorable to you: All the requests for ballot scrutiny, the offers to put it to another vote, the humble and conciliatory tone you adopted when it looked like less than 50 votes had put you in the governor's chair.

Oh wait, that's right. You didn't do any of that! See you in 2008 if the GOP is still a viable party, and if they aren't thoroughly disgusted with your sore loser carcass.

Sounds like the Republicans are most afraid of being treated the way they had planned to treat everyone else, until the vote went against them. Turnabout is still fair play.

23. Hamlet Meant
A type of "grenade" used in castle sieges then. It was a large cast iron "tube" bolted to a wooden shield-like board. Someone ran and put it against the castle wall, inserted a fuse, and lit it. Needless to say, these people usually died. Thus, one was hoisted by his own petard....

My history and lit degrees just came in handy. OMG!!!

every election! What is so hard about that!? A 'do over' election does not sound like a good idea in Washington state.
