TX: Charge against Sears dropped (Delay investigation case)
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D87A8US81.html

Prosecutors have agreed to drop an illegal campaign contribution charge against Sears, Roebuck and Co. in exchange for the company's cooperation with a state investigation of contributions to a Republican political action committee.

A Travis County judge signed off Thursday on the agreement that calls for Sears to enact additional internal policies and to adopt a plan to strengthen its policy against making such illegal contributions in any state.

Sears was accused of making a $25,000 donation to Texans for a Republican Majority during the 2002 legislative campaign. The use of corporate money for political purposes is illegal in Texas. Sears was one of eight corporations accused of giving money to the PAC. Prosecutors previously dropped charges against Diversified Collections Services, Inc. under a similar agreement.

The agreement calls for Sears to cooperate with Texas officials in their prosecution and investigation of other people for any offense related to the corporate contribution that Sears made.

4. Thinking About That Sears Advertising Jingle
I can't help but think of that Sears advertising jingle about "Let's go shopping at Sears / You can't do better than Sears /Sears is where the values are /Let's all go shopping at Sears. There's GOT to be a way to savagely burlesque that jingle if the folks at Sears roll over for the prosecutors going after DeLay's associates (and hopefully the Bug Man himself).

7. I'm really sad that Sears bought Land's End.
Because I used to buy a lot of their merchandise. Now I don't do business with them.

5. When the greedy, arrogant, power-monger is suited in orange,...
,...I'll feel the love of justice.

And, guess what,...I'll offer the same level of "compassion" that he delivered,...figuring that he should receive ten-times that which he gave to (e.g. heartlessly stole from) the poor, oppressed and unfortunate.

May he grind in the wheels of social justice.

6. Diversified Collections Services is a Repub company?
No surprise there. :eyes:

I filed a complaint against them with FTC a few months ago. Their computerized "collectors" kept calling my phone number over & over & over again, many times a day, sometimes every hour, looking for what appeared to be random strangers. :grr: I don't know how they think that would help to collect money anyway since they make it virtually impossible to reach a live person, especially a live person who has any idea WHY they are calling. Who does business like that??? :nuke:

8. I had problems with Diversified, too (I think)
They were collecting for Gateways / Citibank.

Gateways and Citibank refused to remove a fraudulent purchase from my Gateway card, and this collection agency called 2-3 times per day with a computerized machine.

Thank god for Caller ID with Call Intercept.

Finally, a collections lawyer called and I managed to talk some sense into him. I mentioned the words "counter suit" and suddenly the calls and letters stopped.

After a year.

9. At least they were calling the right person when they called you.
They harassed me over money owed by a bunch of people I don't even know! And they weren't even able to explain where they got my number or why they thought all these people could be reached at my number.
