5. According to a Japanese-language article in the Yomiuri Shimbun |
|
Koizumi is going to a summit in Jakarta to propose "up to 500 million US dollars" in money and equivalent aid to striken countries, which includes "money, knowledge, and human resources" ( http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/politics/news/20050101it12.htm),

7. Is It Enought To Be "In-The-Lead" By Dollar Amounts Only? |
|
What's the percentage of the donation to the country's GNP? The United States could still "out-give" all other nations... and still be doing less than we could while other countries are giving LESS than the US, but are actually doing MORE based on their ability to give.

I'll see your 350 and raise you.
But they said 500 million US dollars. Since our dollar has lost a third of its worth since the BFEE took office, does this mean they're giving a lot less than 500?

9. Your $500 is their $500. |
|
As far as I know. Also, are they giving it in dollars or $500 million worth in Yen? $500 million can go a very long way in Thailand and these other countries.

11. Japan isn't simply going to deposit $500 million |
|
into the account of Tsunami Asia-- this proposed figure, which is actually "UP TO 500 million dollars" (500,000,000 doru gendo), includes not only cash donations, but also "knowledge" and "human resources". In other words, Japan has (already) been dispatching experts who have experience in dealing with similar disasters (remember, Japan had its own tidal wave disaster 11 years ago and has also had some deadly earthquakes in the past few years). They are already on the scene in places like Sri Lanka, treating the wounded and administering vaccinations.
