Dutch [EU Presidency] call for EU-wide silence for tsunami dead
AMSTERDAM, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The Netherlands on Friday called for three minutes silence across the European Union on January 5 to honour the victims of Asia's tsunami disaster as the death toll climbed to 124,000.

The Dutch government, which holds the rotating EU presidency until the end of 2004, asked the bloc's 25 member countries to honour victims of the catastrophe by flying flags at half mast and organising three minute silence at midday on Wednesday.
