Dem. Says Iraq Troops Need More Support (radio address)
WASHINGTON - Lawmakers and President Bush (news - web sites) should make a New Year's resolution to give adequate equipment to troops in Iraq (news - web sites), the vice chairman of the House Democratic Caucus said Saturday.

"Our soldiers should never want for proper equipment and accurate intelligence," Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina said in the Democrats' weekly radio address. "Their patriotism and sacrifice should never be doubted or compromised."

Outlining his party's priorities, Clyburn said challenges facing the United States in 2005 include protecting Social Security (news - web sites), lifting children out of poverty, expanding health insurance coverage and making college education more affordable.

He called Social Security a safety net that pays more benefits to children than any other program.

"To jeopardize the solvency of this resoundingly successful program by gambling Social Security benefits on the stock market is a risk that President Bush and this Congress should resolve to avoid," Clyburn said. It was a reference to Bush's proposal that younger workers be allowed to divert part of their Social Security taxes into private retirement investment accounts.

5. besides
if we pulled out now, can you imagine what would happen? there would be civil war for years, decades maybe...other countries might get ideas from bush's "preemptive strike" and attack iraq themselves...

as painful as it might be, we are in it for the long haul...kerry said it himself, it'd be disastrous to pull out now...we really WOULD have "rogue elements" coming after us, and after our troops in other places...

out of the WH.

Our "leaders" missed another golden opportunity to raise the votergate issue for free, to three hundred million listeners.

For free, on MSM.

I have to wonder what these current leaders have between their ears.

Even what he did say was in the peculiar garlbed bureacratese that is the culture of poli sci majors.

Should be in the clear simple forceful oratory style of a Jesse Jackson or Huey Long.

The radio address failed in both content and style.

7. Same logic that kept us in Vietnam for 58,000 KIA.
How many will it take this time around?

The US needs to get out, give the billions to the UN to get in, and never launch an unnecessary war again.

"we must remain steadfast in our support of those who have been placed in harm's way defending this nation's honor."

WTF is he talking about?

sure support our troops with the equipment and training they need to survive BUT to say this war is about "defending this nation's honor" is WRONG.

everything we are doing over there is about DESTROYING this nations 'HONOR' and the LIVES of MILLIONS of INNOCENT CIVILIANS!

the Dem leadership must DEMAND that we DECLARE VICTORY and WITHDRAW IMMEDIATELY after the Iraqi elections THIS month.

there will be 0 reason for us to be there any longer after that, not there were ANY before, but THAT would be their political cover, that they're always WHINING about. if they do not, they will have proved, beyond a reasonable doubt, that they are co-conspirators in this ILLEGAL WAR of AGGRESSION.

we need to hold them to account, damn it!

we all know what to expect from the neoCONs but we MUST hold OUR reps to a HIGHER STANDARD.

peace

12. The troops take an oath of loyalty to the President....
and God...which renders them helpless in unpopular "wars".

We are their only hope Obi-Wan :) We should make this a media talking point, no? yes?
