Bernard Kerik may be under FBI probe
NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- New York City's ex-police Commissioner Bernard Kerik under investigation by the city might be the subject of a FBI inquiry as well.

Sources told the New York Post the FBI is examining Kerik's relationship with organized crime-linked Wall Street securities trader Lawrence Ray and his $6.2 million profit from exercising stock options in Taser International, which sold stun guns to the Department of Homeland Security.

After being indicted with 18 others, Ray pleaded guilty to conspiracy in 2001 in a $41 million pump-and-dump stock fraud. He had a falling-out with Kerik over the case, the Post said.

Investigators are examining Ray and a friend paying $10,000 for the Kerik's 1998 wedding reception and giving him $7,000 in wedding gifts.

14. Funny, I think the exact opposite!!!!
I think this was worked out well ahead of time, like a bit of Kabuki theater. Kerik probably thought he was in like Flynn, that no one would look too closely at his life, and was shocked when the late vetting (was it late, or was it purposefully delayed?) brought him down.

And I do think the target was Rudy. He's the only one who is as ego-driven as the weecowboy coming up for '08. Sure, he has three wives in his background, but there's no draft dodging, mad boozing or coke abuse, so he could get past that without too much struggle...but being in bed with thug cops who consort with criminals, that's a little too creepy for the red staters to get their heads around. Whiskey and women are one thing, organized crime a horse of a different color entirely.

I think the whole thing was a set-up, and it worked. No one is talking anymore about how this administration was MAJESTICALLY INCOMPETENT in their vetting before the announcement; they're just talking about what a scuzzball Kerik is....and some of it is getting on Rudy. If this keeps up, he'll be totally de-balled, and permanently a private citizen.

It worked!

20. If the target was Rudy,
then it was to get him out of Jeb's way for 08.

22. I don't think it will be Jeb
Dunno why, but I don't think so. He said, plainly, he was not going to run. I think they'd rather run a stick figure--someone who looks good, is a blank slate, who can be fed lines, and doesn't have as much history. Better to make it look as though there is not so much of a connection. Plus, they'd have to drag ole Columba back from Mexico, and she doesn't seem like she wants to play (who can blame her, the way her husband has been catting around on her?). Plus, there's Noelle to deal with....she makes Billy Carter look like a statesman!

28. Rudy has a temper. Perhaps they had better watch their backs. He
might just take back his 'thank God George Bush is our President' statement and start revealing some awkward things he might know about His Fraudulency's behavior on 9/11. I think this might backfire on the Bushies, unless they have something on Rudy too. They are all really such astounding scumbags aren't they? Douchebags of Liberty every one.

3. My guess is that Karl Rove --

-- allowed Kerik's name to get as far as it did, knowing that Kerik's negative baggage would sink both him and Rudy.

That would splatter Rudy and make him less of a white knight for the next GOP nomination.

At which point ol' Jeb would come slithering in on the greasy crocodile of Florida politics, claiming his chunk of the family biz.

4. Intersting theory
I don't like rudy, but am sure the repubs don't like him being popular and all. My guess is rudy isn't part of the bush family business and somewhat of a threat.

11. you have it right but ...
... why did Kerik (who knows all the bad things about himself) let the nomination go forward?

I have to believe that Kerik overstepped the line somewhere --- maybe he treatened something about 911 --- i don't know. This is punishment for Kerik directly and possibly for Rudy (but indirectly). I keep on coming back to the fact that Kerik was Rudy's driver and drivers do alot for, and know alot about, their bosses. hmmmm.

Maybe kerik has gotten away with so much in his life, he thought this was his reward.

These people think they're invincible.

18. I have to agree, greasing the rails so Jeb could come sliding in.
you can't put anything past these guys.

The thing is, the fact that they set this up so it appears Guliani has been black-balled from the outside just seems to say to me that they couldn't stick a pin in Rudy directly, i.e., he must have some dirt or something on someone/thing and they don't want to piss him off openly. This way everybody wins that is supposed to. And boy is it ever obvious that Poppy is ultimately pulling all the strings.

10. Wouldn't it be something if Kerik was involved in the short trading
scam on 911?

I bet Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano is laughing his ass off! And I bet Rudy Giuliani is one sick SOB these days.

See 'ya around Rudy

23. Is this stuff the reason Bush said Bernie was "supremely qualified?"
His broad, practical, hands-on experience makes Bernie superbly qualified to lead the Department of Homeland Security.

29. GW Bush Silverspoon Sociopath...
is also merely a sock puppet. His handlers didn't clue him in
on their game to torpedo Rudy because shrub is not an effective actor. They knew that the Admin. flap would disolve in a couple of days as the story would be about Kerik and Rudy would get the shit splattered him. It worked.
