WA Republicans say they found voting discrepancies

SEATTLE - State Republican Party leaders say they've found 8,400 more ballots cast than the number of voters registered in the state's five largest counties.
State GOP Chairman Chris Vance says the mismatching numbers in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Clark and Kitsap are troubling.

Republican Dino Rossi won the first two counts in the governor's race, then lost a hand recount to Democrat Christine Gregoire by a mere 129 votes.

4. So? Democrats found more ballots cast for Shrub
in several counties than there were registered votes, and the GOP didn't think that was any big deal...

28. I stand corrected
We'll see, however, if Rossi actually contests the election. So far, all I've seen is a lot of grandstanding without any substantive legal arguments for invalidating the election. Maybe he's playing it close to the vest, but I doubt seriously whether the element of surprise is going to work against someone who used to be the state attorney general.

Arriverderci, Dino.

29. Anything he brings will be a baseless claim, since the election in WA
and both recountes were conducted in an apparently fair, open, honest, and transparent mannar.

Simple as that.

Also, I know it was conducted fair becuase the Republican Secretary of State is getting blasted from all directions by the Republican party :-) That means that he was trying to be fair, and there's nothing more that the Republican party hates than a fair election.

12. This story is horribly misleading.

Note the last line :

"County officials have said it typically takes a while for election results to be reconciled with voter registration records."

That's the "fine print" to this claim.

Sam Reed (WA SoS) was asked about this during his news conference the day he certified the results, and he was very clear: the results the Republicans are relying on to make this claim are *partial* lists that the larger counties have not finished compiling yet. Of course, they won't tell their supporters that. But, in all fairness, their supporters probably don't care anyway. After all, if they cared about facts, they wouldn't be Republicans.

19. READ the whole article! The republicans are relying on PARTIAL lists
to make this conclusion. Reconciling the lists usually takes a couple months after the end of the election, due to provisional ballots, etc.

23. Gosh, KATU being a bit fast and loose with the facts?
Who would've guessed? I mean, considering their political commentary in the last five years has ranged from the rabid, frothing at the mouth right (Lars Larson) to the know-nothing, empty-headed kook right (Ron Saxton), I can't imagine why they'd stick a misleading headline on a story like this!

Tom McCall is rolling over slowly in his grave.

20. GOP is pissed because their dirty tricks didn't work this time
I guess they didn't pay the vote hackers enough money?

So funny that the GOP is whining about count the vote.

The religious right thought that this time they had managed to select a candidate who could pass as normal. Rossi's primary ads were effective -- he almost sounded like a moderate coming from a working class background etc.

The previous GOP candidates were extreme -- Craswell is a real nut case right wing religious right. But then I suspect that a whole lot of Dems crossed over and voted for her in the primary -- Locke beat her easily in the General Election.

The GOP will keep trying to scam the election and find someone who wears a "normal" mask.

What the old Washington State Republican party needs to do is take back their party from current religious right wing nuts.

The dems gained a whole lot of really good people -- former Republicans who were tossed out by the religious fanatics now in control of the GOP.
