Bush Calls for 'Big Things' From Congress
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) welcomed newly elected members of Congress to town Monday with a call "to achieve big things," beginning with help for foreigners devastated by the tsunami.
...
But he said he also wants to make his mark in his second term by reforming Social Security (news - web sites) and the legal system; improving the tax code, school standards and the budget process; and making health care accessible to more Americans.

"I want to confront problems, and I will," Bush said, looking out at dozens of new lawmakers and their spouses gathered in the East Room. "I'll call upon Congress to take on big issues, and I look forward to working with members of both parties to do just that."

Bush campaigned in both of his presidential elections on reaching out across party lines. Yet he often leaves behind any lawmakers who don't get on board his agenda.

"This town is sometimes too partisan and too political," Bush said. "And my hope is, is that we can show the nation that we can come together to achieve big things for the good of the country."

Bush thanked the newly elected members and their spouses for their public service. He said politics is "the ultimate sacrifice."

6. Pretty stupid thing for him to say
as the US death toll in Iraq for Dec is rivised up today.

He's a pol through and through; He says whatever his audience wants to hear most.

17. Yes
We're going to sacrifice Social Security.
We're going to sacrifice your health care.
We're going to sacrifice your children in hairbrained wars.

2. POLITICS is "the ultimate sacrifice"??
WTF is wrong with that guy? Maybe the parents of the soldiers killed in Iraq could argue with that statement.

3. Overstatement and Bushwa
The statements you quoted are why Bush makes educated people crazy. No sane person would contend that giving up a career in the private sector for government is "the ultimate sacrifice." Dying on the battlefield (Gettysburg, Flanders, Normandy, Iwo, Inchon, the Iron Triangle, Falluja) is the "ultiimate sacrifice."

This systematic overstatement really bothers me. It devalues true "ultimate sacrifice." It's illiterate.

This man is the Leader of the Free World. Thanks a bunch, Ohio.

7. Bush said that politics is "the ultimate sacrifice"???
That is just about the most obscene thing I have yet heard from this idiot considering how eager he was to send our troops to Iraq where so many have made the true "ultimate sacrifice". Sickening. :puke:

10. Ah, but by calling politics "the ultimate sacrifice"
he tells us he's really a great hero instead of a limp-dick, candy-ass chickenshit AWOL douchebag who did everything in his and Poppy's power to avoid even having to get close to a situation where the real ultimate sacrifice could occur.

In its strictest definition, a synonym for fellatio.

But a noble effort nonetheless, Ocelot!

12. I agree with him for once. Here's the "big things" I want to see
1. Impeachment of George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and anyone else associated with Gulf 'W'ar II.

2. Extradition of all named in paragraph 1 to The Hague to stand trial for war crimes, with understanding that they get to come to an American prison to serve their sentences. (What's the shittiest prison in America?) And I want them to serve in solitary; Bush would probably make an excellent prison bitch but no one should be so unfortunate as to have the task of deflowering Georgie.

3. Revocation of tax-free status for any and all religious organizations that distributed the Christian Coalition's voter guides at any time in their history.

4. Deportation of the Reverend Moon.

5. Revocation of naturalization and deportation for Rupert Murdoch.

6. Calling Fatwa against Osama bin Laden.

7. Cancellation of all Halliburton government contracts.

8. Seizure of the Bush family fortune and properties with proceeds going to relief for soldiers wounded, and families of soldiers killed, in wars George W. Bush launched.

9. Normalization of relations with Cuba.

10. Banning of abstinence-only sex education programs.

11. Immediate conscription for enlisted infantry service of all military-age family members of every Republican politician at all levels.

12. A formal apology to France for shitting on them for the last few years.

13. Beating Rimjob Robinson's ass on national television.

14. Doing the same thing to John McNeill and the rest of the Swift Boat liars.

15. Closure of Guantanamo and immediate repatriation of everyone in there. At this point I don't care whether they were terrorists or not when we threw them in there; if they weren't terrorists then, they are now.

Yup, I want some big things, all right...starting with sending his sorry ass to prison.
