Defeated (TX repug) lawmakers get election challenge hearings
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D87CSGOO0.html

Three state legislative candidates who are challenging their defeats in the Nov. 2 election will get hearings this month before a special House committee charged with determining the legality of the contests.

Rep. Talmadge Heflin, Rep. Jack Stick and Eric Opiela, all Republicans, will each get a day to present evidence to the committee during hearings the week of Jan. 24, said Rep. Will Hartnett, who was appointed to oversee the evidence-gathering process. The hearings, or "mini-trials," will be conducted at the Texas Capitol and will be open to the public. Although rare, a House election challenge is not unprecedented. However, only one in the past 40 years has resulted in the House ordering a new election.

Each has been instructed to present a briefing packet with evidence supporting his allegations to the committee before the hearings.
After receiving the committee's recommendation, the full House can declare a winner in the election or declare the election void and call for a new one. The candidates who won the most votes in the challenged races will be seated when the Legislature convenes Jan. 11, but will not be allowed to vote until the contests are resolved, Hartnett said.

3. Ugh, Stick is in my district...
His opponent winning was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise horrifying election night for me.

8. I thought for sure the nat'l repugs would tell local repukes to shut up...
Cuz it could open a can of worms if there was any fraud down here and too much attention is given to the TX voting process...thought the Washington repukes would tell the Texas local repukes to just take one for the team and STFU.
But they may just be going thru the motions because I read somewhere that the guy in charge of it all was only given the local repukes a half hearted amount of time to get their ducks/evidence in a row and if he really was going to do anything significant for them that he would have given them a longer time to put their arguments together. So this may just be a dog and pony show to say "gee, we did try..really" just to pacify the repuke voters down here.
You'd think they didn't have anything better to do down here than to take time out to do this crap..seeing as how they only meet every 2 yrs to fix everything wrong with this state, you wouldn't think they would have time for these kind of games.
