Calls to Postpone Iraqi Elections Grow
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&e=2&u=/ap/20050104/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_elections_5

BAGHDAD, Iraq - More Iraqi interim government officials are calling for the postponement of Jan. 30 elections to ensure a higher Sunni voter turnout, a sign that a campaign of violence might be taking its toll on Iraqi resolve. The country's electoral commission, however, insists that voting take place as scheduled.

Sunni Arab clerics have called for a boycott and Iraq (news - web sites)'s largest Sunni political party announced it was pulling out of the race because of poor security that has seen insurgents kill scores of Iraqi security forces, as well as several election officials, in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, gunmen killed the governor of the Baghdad province, Ali al-Haidari, and six of his bodyguards in an ambush of his convoy in the Iraqi capital, officials said. Al-Haidari was the highest-ranking official killed since the former president of the now defunct Governing Council, Abdel-Zahraa Othman, was assassinated in May.

Several proposals have been floated lately to counter the threat of a low Sunni turnout that would undermine the legitimacy of the vote — the country's first free elections since monarchy in 1958. Iraqis are to choose a legislative assembly to draft a constitution.

2. That's OK, Bush puppet Allawi can run things indefinitely
If the plan is to have a fake election to "select" Allawi and he's already there, we just need to continue to throw U.S. soldiers into the meat grinder known as Iraq to "protect" his fat ass.

RIGHT, Mr. President?

15. I think perhaps it is because all of these fellows...
are exiles like chalabi and the rest. They have been living the high life in Europe off of the US government. The rich food and lack of activity tend to catch up with you.

8. They already have a despot ruling their country, GWB
the election will be held even if only one Iraqi gets to cast a vote. Perhaps they can get that lady in all the Afghanistan pictures again.

BushCo and the bushbots will declare democracy reigns and continue the secret meetings for privatization of Iraqi assets.

14. The US will put a puppet into power. A powerless puppet.
The US is privatizing (stealing) all money making public sectors even as we speak.
The US will never leave that country.

17. You're right, they've already got the ballots rigged and everything
No reason to postpone just because some people Bush wasn't going to let win don't want to vote.

Problem is, though, since this is all a show and not really an election Bush needs it to be even more pretty than if it were an election. It's like a car crash in a movie. Cars that go over cliffs in real life never explode, but if they don't explode in a movie it looks phoney. They have to make it look more real than real since it is so obviously fake. Some with this election.

Besides, our troops can't "come back and turn this sandy oilfield into glass" because our troops have no intention of going away. Now, if we do decide to nuke-- and we all now that Babykiller Bush will have his erection until he gets to launch a nuke somewhere-- our troops won't "come back," they'll get the hell out of there.

18. ok. so if the shiites are the majority, then why would they do
things that would cause the election to be postpone. it would seem to me that the insurgents are doing the sunni's a favor by causing all of these problems.

but that couldn't be because our msm, and fearless leader say that they hate us for our freedoms, and they want to stop the elections.

hmmmmmm!
