Under New Rules, House Can Speak of Senate
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=512&ncid=1278&e=5&u=/ap/20050104/ap_on_go_co/congress_naming_names

WASHINGTON - Tinkering with a tradition that goes back to Thomas Jefferson, House members in the new Congress will be able to refer to senators by name on the floor — as long as they don't get too personal.

They will no longer have to speak of "the other body" or face admonishment from the chair when they slip up and utter the word "Senate" or name a senator.

"I felt that in the modern age the rule was antiquated," said Rep. Tom Feeney (news, bio, voting record), R-Fla., who added the measure to a package of rule changes the House approved during its opening-day session. "We don't want ad hominem attacks, but we certainly want to cite the record."

-snip-
Feeney's provision stipulates that, while members will now be able to refer to the Senate or a senator's action, they are still prohibited from launching personal attacks on a senator.

No personal attacks? Yeah, right.

1. Geared to attack Hillary every chance they can.
On top of their gratuitous swipes at Kerry.

3. Let's hope this backfires on them
and hope their failure to contain their venom comes back to haunt them . . .

2. As cheney his self is said to have said on the Senate floor,
to another Senate member, "go cheney yourself." Nothing personal, ya understand.

4. Picture of Feeney's girl friend / "aid"

Back when he was in the Florida Leg. a lot of talk was going on about this married man and one aid.

IMHO the picture speaks for itself.

8. um....this is a GOOD thing IMO
The old rule was silly - any time anybody would mention anything about the Senate on the House floor, they'd get slapped by the Chair. With anybody referring more to Democrats than Republicans of course, given the current Speakership.

11. Well, it goes both (hopefully). Although these guys seem to
see themselves on the same level as the founding fathers which is pretty damn scary - because they are just partisan hacks.
