C.I.A. Chief Names Deputy and Ends Meetings -NYT
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 09:31 PM by Rose Siding
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 - In the latest changes at the Central Intelligence Agency, Porter J. Goss, the new chief, has named a new deputy director for intelligence and has abolished a daily 5 p.m. meeting that had been used since the Sept. 11 attacks to coordinate counterterrorism operations around the world, intelligence officials said on Tuesday.
...
As part of the reorganization, administration officials said, Mr. Goss also plans to install as the agency's new chief spokeswoman Jennifer Millerwise, who has performed that role most recently for Vice President Dick Cheney and for the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. Ms. Millerwise also served as a spokeswoman for Mr. Goss when he was a Republican congressman from Florida, and she would be the latest in a series of former Republican aides to be installed by Mr. Goss in senior positions at the C.I.A.

Under Mr. Tenet, the C.I.A.'s most senior officials along with representatives of the F.B.I. and other agencies convened each day at 5 p.m. for a counterterrorism meeting that participants have described as the most important session held each day in Washington. The C.I.A. has played the leading role in the clandestine role on terrorism, and Mr. Tenet's admirers have said the meeting served a vital coordinating function.
...
The move appears to reflect what Mr. Goss has said publicly was his concern that the C.I.A. under Mr. Tenet may have devoted too much time and resources to terrorism at the expense of other issues. A report issued last spring by the House Intelligence Committee, at a time when Mr. Goss was the panel's chairman, cautioned that "the Central Intelligence Agency must continue to be much more than just the 'Central Counterterrorism Agency' if America is to be truly secure, prosperous and free."

Isn't it pathetic that he would appoint a professional spokesmodel *LOL* as a deputy director over the CIA?

And WTF is this "secure, prosperous and free" rhetoric?

On the other hand, the "terrorism" stuff was manipulated and exaggerated to the benefit of the neoCONimperialist agenda,...yes?

The Journalist Who Exposed the Crimes of Luis Posada Carriles
By JEAN-GUY ALLARD

Like few journalists before him, Gary Webb exposed the CIA's evil schemes in the drug world and revealed to the US public how the country's black neighborhoods were inundated with crack as part of drug trafficking designed to supply the Nicaraguan Contras with money and weapons.

He exposeded narco-terrorist Luis Posada Carriles and his accomplices who were involved in that criminal transaction. And he ended up being shot in his home with two bullets in his face. A suicide, reported the judicial authorities.

US reporters are in mourning. Gary Webb, who was discovered dead on Friday, December 10, in his Carmichael home in California, was for many a model of professionalism and integrity. He was 49 years of age.

snip to the end:

Webb's series in the San José Mercury News explains in detail how the CIA network sold tons of cocaine to criminal gangs and demonstrates how the White House's anti-communist fanaticism was so fervent that it was willing to engage in the propagation of the most hideous drug epidemic of modern times.

The African-American community in the United States was shocked by the news disseminated by Webb's articles.

His role in disclosing the CIA's sinister plot made Webb a very famous figure in the black community.

When the House of Representatives finally agreed to take up the issue, after a report was issued by the CIA inspector general concerning drug trafficking by the agency, Porter Goss, who had directed the Intelligence Committee since the previous year, decided at a preliminary hearing that the allegations were "false."

Goss, a former CIA agent who in 1972 participated in operations at the JM/WAVE base in Miami, including terrorist operations against Cuba, ended up being named director of the CIA by George W. Bush.

for the rest of the long ugly story go to the above link.

Why are "we the people" letting all the criminals run amok, again? Jesus Christ, I have a comic book from this era in time detailing them all. Did we all forget? Is it okay now, they served time for their crimes? As in treason? I'm lost and confused. We have all lost our collective minds.

15. Thanks for posting this
I remember when this series came out, tho I never did read it all, and there erupted such a furor over it, with Webb SO thoroughly denounced and discredited. I remember also that Maxine Waters was then, as she is now, one of the few in Washington who got it. And here we still are.

Which raises this question for me: doesn't there come a point when we really have to do more than believe the unbelievable, hold hearings and such?

16. Howard Zinn on The Daily Show the other night said it all.
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 01:53 PM by anarchy1999
The difference between Bush and Christopher Columbus was CC was on the ship and leading his troops.

El, "we've" been holding hearings forever. Why is the "Iran-Contra" gang back in charge? Never held responsible, pardoned for everything, running our country now, into the virtual ground. We are on the same page, unfortunately for us, most of the "sheeple people" just want to know who won yesterday's football game and who is going to the "SuperBowl". Bread and circus, Rome here we come, we are there already.

Probably why they were able to prevent 9-11 and capture Bin Ladin and fight the 'terrorists' in Iraq. Does that mean we won the War on Terror???
