GOP may object to ratification of governor vote
Legislative tradition poised to fall

By CHRIS McGANN
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER CAPITOL CORRESPONDENT

OLYMPIA -- It's usually no more than a formality.

State House and Senate leaders who gather here next week will announce that, hearing no objection, the Legislature hereby ratifies the 2004 election.

But with the prospect that Republicans may contest the race that Gov.-elect Christine Gregoire won by 129 votes over Dino Rossi in a controversial hand recount, that tradition might become the first casualty of the Legislative session.

House Minority Leader Bruce Chandler, R-Granger, said yesterday that unless questions are answered about the election process -- specifically about how several counties counted thousands more votes than there were voters recorded -- Republicans plan to object.

1. Bring it on
lets hear your reasons for contesting THAT election and why they should NOT be used as rationale for contesting OH.

2. Yeah, I'd like to hear their reasons also...
If it's not about the outcome of this election, as the pub stated, then they should also be interested in finding out what happened in OH...

6. Reason: Because most top DEMS are too chicken-shit to contest it.

They dont need to give a reason- no top DEMS are contesting it- too corrupt/cowardly.

You watch- not one will stand up in the Senate- not one.

3. Stupid Repukes, this was as close as an election could get, with Rossi
ahead by only 42 votes after the mandatory machine recount. The manual recount was obviously going to be a razor thin victory for whoever came out ahead. Just because Gregoire did and not Rossi, the Repukes automatically assume some kind of fraud. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would be singing a totally different tune, rest assured of that. Now they just want to nullify the whole thing and start over.

"Chandler said House Republicans plan to "work with whoever wins the race," but he added that with all the unanswered questions, "we don't know who won the election, and we never will." "

I say NO WAY. Dems have to band together on this and force the Repukes to prove fraud in court or back off and accept reality.

10. That's right.
As Liberals we're open minded. We're thoughtful and in the current political reality a little too good at seeing the other side IMO.

The Republicans have declared political war on every front and Democrats are just now realizing they were pushed into a corner. Let Gregoire's street fighter attitude be a model for Democrats across the country. Take off the gloves and see how they like their noses bloodied a little.

If we believe we are right why not fight for it? People respect that.

5. This would be agood thing if most DEMS were not corrupt cowards.
If DEMS were not he corrupt cowards that they are, the Senate DEMS could hold this up and say "We need to look at the election in Ohio too- I'm glad Republicans are finally concerned about questions in our voting system."

But they wont- they will remain silent and corrupt as ever.

They are too scared the Republicans & media will call them "conspiracy nuts."

I have to admire Republicans for their guts. I wish I agreed with them so that I could be a member of a party with a back-bone.

7. This is too fucking perfect. :-)
"unless questions are answered about the election process -- specifically about how several counties counted thousands more votes than there were voters recorded -- Republicans plan to object."

This is silver platter grade stuff here. Boxer, Feingold, anyone--I'm looking in your direction.

9. They wont use it. Forget it. They are too frightened of Judy Woodruff.
Fighting for your voters is somthing only Republicans have the guts to do.

Republicans are not scared of Democrats or the media- while most top-DEMS are totally scared that if they even question the election, Judy Woodruff & Tom DeLay will call them "Conspiracy nuts."

8. No revote-NO WAY
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 03:33 AM by Ruffhowse
"Sen. Bill Finkbeiner, R-Kirkland, echoed Chandler's concerns and joined a growing chorus of Republicans suggesting a new election would be the best resolution.

He said there was clearly partisan bias in administering the election. But he said it was still unclear if that bias rose to the level of outright fraud.

"One county seems to have had an overly large impact," Finkbeiner said of King County, where Gregoire picked up that vast majority of the votes that propelled her to victory."

Incredible hypocrisy. "clearly partisan bias in administering the election." Can anyone say FLORIDA IN 2000??!!! Geez!, and he talks about King County having an overly large impact. Could that be because IT'S BY FAR THE MOST POPULOUS COUNTY IN THE STATE????!!!!! The Washington Dems gotta shut these guys down FAST and HARD. No damn revote, no way.

11. Most WA dems have learned how to fight the WA GOP
Those of us who can remember back to the 1980s know that this is when the christians right took over the Republican party -- since then the Republicans have pulled every dirty trick in the book.

As someone said Gregoire is a street fighter -- and she used to work for Slade Gorton -- who is a dirty son of a bitch.

One aspect of the christian right's take over of the Republican Party -- the Democrats gained several the Republicans who couldn't stomach what their party had become. And these now democrats/former Republicans know how to fight.

When we bitch about the Republicans -- I guess we need to keep in mind that this isn't the GOP party of our parent/grandparent's era -- that Republican party has been stolen by nut cases with a non-democratic agenda. They want to force their religious MYTHOLOGY down our throats. They want "christian soldiers" who obey the commands of the "leader" without question -- soldiers who are mindless robots.

I can't imagine President Eisenhower behaving like bush has (and is behaving).

12. Its the Gee Sus Factor
I saw it for the first time on Frontline last night. It'll curl your toes and straighten your hair.

These Holy Rollers are so well organized, financed and hypnotized that nothing short of a miracle is going to stop them. The arrogance, hypocrisy and disdain they have for those who aren't "saved", is nothing less than PURE EVIL. I am convinced they represent the ANTI-CHRIST.

We will have a full plate just trying to keep the status quo.O8)
