U.S. business group blasts Spitzer (U.S. Chamber of Commerce)
WASHINGTON -- The head of the nation's largest business association issued a blistering broadside against New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer Wednesday, charging he is abusing his power as a law enforcement official.

The attack on Spitzer came when U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue was asked at a press conference how the business group planned to challenge what it calls "excesses" among some white collar investigations in recent years.

"He's the investigator, the prosecutor, the judge, the jury and the executioner," said Donohue.

The criticism comes about a month after Spitzer, a Democrat, announced he will run for governor of New York in 2006.

2. Cry me a river
I don't hear these guys boo-hooing about the "excesses" in white collar crime. They're just whining because they now get an itty bitty slap on the wrist, waaaaaaah. Instead of just getting to joke over cocktails at the Princeton Club about who they screwed.

Reminds me of that Chapelle skit about what would happen if the white collar criminal got treated like the small-time urban criminal, and vice versa.

4. Probably a good indication that Spitzer is --
-- on the right track.

I think he will mount a strong challenge to Pataki for the statehouse.

Does anybody have any insights on whether Pataki will definitely seek re-election?
