Salon, farewell, to D.C. chief (Sid Blumenthal)
(Snarky writing by Lloyd Grove)

It looks as if "Sid Vicious" is out of a job.

Liberal lightning rod Sidney Blumenthal, who earned the nickname when he worked in attack-dog mode at Bill Clinton's White House, has been relieved of his duties as Washington bureau chief of the online magazine Salon.

(snip)

"We're still very fond of Sidney and very appreciative of his talents and deeply want him to continue to have a relationship with Salon," Talbot said, declining to give a reason for Blumenthal's departure.

(snip)

Blumenthal, who was equally vague, said he's at work on a study of U.S. Presidents and race for Farrar, Straus & Giroux.

"I continue to serve as U.S. columnist for The Guardian of London, which syndicates my column internationally, and which Salon publishes as well," he told me.

1. He Stood Up to Matt PUDGE and HITCHENS
If nothing else, those acts should be his honorable epithaph. We need his voice. What's it about?

2. This is TERRIBLE news!
Sidney Blumenthal is my hero!

If you haven't read "The Clinton Wars," do yourself a favor and get a copy now.

He was one of the few loyalists who understood what was happening during the dark days of impeachment. Plus, he is an excellent writer.

I subscribe to Salon partly because of him.

3. It's not bad news at all
His columns will still be available for those of us who look forward to them.

Salon's readership has been in a free fall for a couple of years now.

I'm surprised they're still in business.

4. I have a salon.com membership
I like their writing and want to keep them going. Of late, the "war room" column is the best part.

5. Where will they be available?
I'd like to keep up with him.

My understanding has been that Salon is doing much better in recent months. I certainly hope they stay in business because they carry some invaluable reporting, in particular, Eric Boehlert and his reports on the media.

7. I'll catch him in the Guardian like I always do. It's a FAR superior news
source anyway than anything in this hell hole.
