China fearful of net
You think?

The piece in Seeking Truth magazine - written by the country's top cultural official and picked up by news agency AFP - claims that the domination of the English language and Western ideas online are a threat to China's cultural identity.

The article further warns that "other political patterns, value concepts and lifestyles opposes and undermines socialist values". It continues: "The use of the internet for cultural aggression is extremely dangerous, threatening to a people's culture, independence and freedom, even going so far to possibly unsettle a people's or a country's foundations."

1. I wonder how many Chinese hackers are having fun...
screwing with the government filters and shit, you can't keep information from a population forever, that is a recipe for failure.

3. It seems to be working for the Bush Administration................
they don't want the public to know anything about the daily mechanization of government. They hide everything from us, release the propaganda they want believed and the American public seems to be eating it up.

7. Chinese take internet "crime" seriously. Not to be joked about.
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 12:50 AM by YolandaMartinez
It happened in Cheng Du when I was there. A bonfire was lit, and then people accused of "internet crimes" were lined up. Each one was thrown into the bonfire and I could hear the screams. One was a young man, looked to be about 15. The screams were horrifying.

9. It's More Possible Than I Would Like to Think
The screams were horrifying, and yes, this could be happening to DUers someday. I hope that they stop that torturer, that goon enabler, that helldevil from becoming AG. After four years of Jesus Hisself as AG, it would be nice to have a normal human, and not Satan's spawn in there.

4. American Conservatives Fearful of Net Too!
Asscroft was using public funds to "monitor" the internet for "immoral" stuffs. And many freepers want certain things BANNED from the internet. Conservatives are very much for censorship when it suits their purposes.
