U.S. Faces Big Illegal Immigrant Problem

U.S. Faces Big Illegal Immigrant Problem
LOLITA C. BALDOR
Associated Press

BOSTON - The federal government is falling far short of its post-Sept. 11 goal of removing nearly 400,000 illegal immigrants from the United States over the following six years.

The $10 million approved in April for nine new federal enforcement teams has been released, but the positions have yet to be filled. No new money is proposed for the budget year that begins Oct. 1.
An internal immigration agency document estimated it will take 240 new teams over the next four years to round up foreigners who have ignored orders to leave the country.

"The numbers are growing at an alarming rate - for every 10 final orders (of deportation) issued, we're removing six people," said Anthony Tangeman, director of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's detention and removal operations in Washington. "We don't have the capability to remove all the removable aliens. We're not going to get to where we need to go in my lifetime, or at least in my career as director of this program."

The 19 hijackers involved in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, traveled to the United States on valid visas; two were in the country illegally at the time of the attacks.

3. every time the economy is down they try to wipe their asses
with immigrants. when things are fine no one utters a peep about them. As if the unemployed Americans would work out here in the desert picking grapes, and if they did, could you afford the price the farmers would have to charge to pay the gringo salaries/benefits, etc& etc?

5. how would you know
that the unemployed Americans wouldn't take that job?
And if you have a problem with minimum wage that's a different issue.

7. The best guess that Americans wouldn't is because
they didn't.

Minimum wage used to be called a living wage, but that sounded sorta like you might need it to live, so we raise it one buck in 23 years.

Please don't worry, though, Congress just gave themselves their fourth raise in four years, for just a bit over $20,000 total! (Their raise is TWICE the minimum.)

And of course, a whole lotta people don't qualify for minimum wage - waitpersons, ag workers, teen workers, and more.

Nothing new - since the beginning of the country, if we had a nasty dangerous job to do for little money - bring 'em in!

9. Homeland Security is not only a scam, it's smoke and mirrors
The dems did start bitching about it awhile back...does anyone know why they sort of dropped it?? They used to say that Bush spent all that money over there on a war on an Evil Doer who had nothing to do with 9/11 and has done squat nothing on Homeland Security (including funding most of it). They need to go back to the message---don't slack up on it. The people need to know that it is more than jobs and social programs, etc. in the US that this guy is blowing BUT that he is leaving us as bare naked to attack as we were before 9/11. They have to get back to this message.

13. Calm down, Nottingham
The 400,000 undocumented aliens are already in the country. They are not an Army.

Can you see how you're letting your emotions get carried away with you? "Undocumented workers" = "terrorist invaders." Not good for your health or reasonable public policy. And just plain wrong.
