Democrats Force Debate on Electoral Vote Count
Lawmakers Cite Ohio 'Election Irregularities'

WASHINGTON (Jan. 6) - A group of Democrats angry with Election Day problems in Ohio forced Congress on Thursday to interrupt its ceremonial counting of the electoral votes that gave President Bush his re-election victory.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, has raised concerns about what he describes as voting irregularities in Ohio.

The challenge does not jeopardize Bush's November win over Democratic Sen. John Kerry. But the House and Senate, as legally required, began separate debates on the Ohio irregularities. It marked only the second time since 1877 that the House and Senate were forced into separate meetings to consider electoral votes.

In a statement, Kerry said there are "very troubling questions" about the Ohio voting and he would present a plan later to improve voting procedures.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan dismissed the move as politically driven.

1. That's not a bad headline, given the current media environment.
"Democrats Force Debate on Vote Fraud" would have been better, or even "Democrats Force Debate on Voting Irregularities."

But "Democrats Force ANYTHING" sounds like a good start! :)

2. I'm of the mindset that this week's MSM tone will be a strong indicator
of whether we will ever get an honest chance at an office again. Without striking while the iron's hot, we're in trouble for the long run.

3. I agree. Some important work was done today...
... but it has to be the start of some real hardball play, not the end. It will be interesting to see which Dems get booked on the TV shows and interviewed in the newspapers for the next few days.

6. Haven't you heard?
Anything contained in the Constitution is now "ceremonial" ... when all those amendments actually meant some legally, they took up too much time and effort. :eyes:

7. Yeah, that's right Scott: wanting the votes counted ...
is politically driven. It's driven by the politics of democracy, by wanting our voices heard. It's a politics that you and your masters are not familiar with.
