Arcata (Calif.) ... says Bush, not Davis, needs to be ousted
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 04:18 PM by Newsjock
From Saturday's SF Chronicle; edit to add link -- thanks for catching my goof

Arcata, Humboldt County -- There's nothing particularly wrong with kicking out the governor, say many of the good folks of Arcata, but it's not nearly as important as kicking out someone who really deserves getting kicked out.

Someone like, say, the president.

Arcata, which is hard at work these days pondering a municipal resolution favoring the impeachment of George Bush, is not known as the Berkeley of the North Coast for nothing.

... A lot of like-minded Arcata residents jammed a community center the other night to roar their approval for Meserve's proposed city resolution urging Congress to impeach Bush over the Iraq war. All he needs is one more council member's vote to make kicking out Bush the official municipal policy, and no one in this town of 16,000 is betting against his getting it.

1. This is where I live...
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 03:48 PM by Oracle
on the outskirts of town…it’s the best, the ocean, redwoods, sunny clean air, not crowded and mild all year, very, very liberal, town, no fast food restaurants in town (only by the motel section I think there’s a McDonalds) the best smoke around, great music, a university and very political…it’s like being in San Francisco (where I grew up) or Berk. in the sixties.

A big rally in Arcata, (Humboldt County, CA) for my man Dennis Kucinich on the 25th of this month.

2. Right on...
I spent some time at HSU when my ex was there...unbelievable place. People smile and say "Hi!" walking down the street! People with real values, they are.

(This is an e-mail I received yesterday.)

"I haven't figured out how to send you my address book so to save time I'll list all the Eureka Area folks on the CC line. They will all receive this message and I hope they'll bear with us as we work to build our campaign organization. I think you'll you'll be able to select the names into your Address Book and then into your own grouping.

I normally put the addresses on the BCC line so folks won't become targets for spam.
Good luck with your 7PM, 9/25 Kucinich meeting at the Adorni Center. Maybe some of us outlanders can show up to help."

6. Believe it or not...
I've been hear about ten years now and there's a lot more sunny days then before, that's what the locals tell me...and I'm blown away I expected more grey days...but it's not...early morning fog but usually burns off by 10:30 or 11:00 and just beautiful sunny days...we do get that shitty month where it seems grey everyday it seems and you never know when that month will be...changes every year.

10. Oracle ...
I moved here from another cold gray City by the bay (guess which one?) :)

I've been here since the beginning of 1991 and I like it ok but ... I left my heart in the other place ... maybe someday I will return, you never know. It is a lot cheaper to live here, that is for certain!

Cheers!

7. This is always fun
When my little town passed its anti-war thingy, folks came out of the woodwork to shout at the council members.

My favorite part of the meeting (which, of course, took place after the thing was passed) was when the group was asked, "How many of you actually live in town limits?"

Very few.

:)
