RICARDO Alarcón, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (single-chamber Parliament), has defended the Cuban electoral system as opposed to the one that the United States wishes to impose on the island.

-

In June, the US President George W. Bush approved all the recommendations of the so-called Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba, which are an attempt to dismantle the political system installed in the country by the Revolution in 1959.

Alarcón called on the CEN members to ensure not only that the upcoming elections are characterized by being clean and transparent but that they will be an example of conscious and genuine participation by the whole society.

"In Cuba," he added, "its citizens enjoy many rights that are unknown to thousands of millions of people in the world.

6. The US Presidential System must be abolished and replaced by a Parliament
With One Party rule under the GOP, and the coming energy crisis with the peaking of global oil reserves, a massive social & political revolution is going to occur much sooner than most people think. If we make the most of it, we ought to be able to put together a multi-party, proportional representative system that will better reflect the interests of a much more diverse population. A Parliamentary System is definitely the way to go in this regard.

7. Well, Cuban elections have their own problems.
But compared to U.S. elections, they don't look as bad as they might otherwise.
