France, U.S. Remain at Odds at U.N. Meeting
(there have been similar articles in LBN but this one looks different)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A6010-2003Sep13.html

<snip>
Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said that despite "some narrowing" of the differences, the Bush administration believed that a French timetable for transferring power to an Iraqi government within a month was "unrealistic."

"You have to have a government that is not only there with the doors open but it has to be functioning in a way that people will have confidence in it," Powell told reporters after the meeting. "It has to be functioning in a way that the people will respect it. The worst thing one can do is to set them up for failure."
<end snip>

Powell... give us an f*ing break!

2. the irony of this quote
Is causing me to post in my own thread.

"You have to have a government that is not only there with the doors open but it has to be functioning in a way that people will have confidence in it."

When will the U.S. get one of those again?

3. How's about this, Colin:
Let's set a timetable, and if after a month, we think we need another 2 weeks, we will give it 2 weeks. and so on.
