Sen. Clinton's Finance Director Indicted
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=4&u=/ap/20050107/ap_on_go_co/hillary_clinton_aide

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's former finance director has been indicted on charges of causing false campaign finance reports to be filed with the Federal Election Commission, the Justice Department said Friday.

The indictment of David Rosen, unsealed in Los Angeles, focuses on his fund-raising for an Aug. 12, 2000, gala for Clinton in Los Angeles. The New York Democrat was still first lady at the time.

While the event allegedly cost more than $1.2 million, the indictment said, Rosen reported contributions of about $400,000, knowing the figure to be false.

The indictment charged that Rosen provided some documents to the an FEC compliance officer but withheld the true costs of the event and provided false documents to substantiate the lower figure.

Plus, it punishes Hillary for standing up to support the idea of free, fair elections yesterday.

Look for Boxer and Conley to receive similar treatment.

I might point out that due to the role that bloggers and websites played in getting a slow down and, from their point of view, embarrasment this week over Ohio, I'm looking for some sort of retaliation directed toward the internet and the blogs.

23. Your comment shows part of why we lose every single time
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 05:44 PM by Democat
We attack the left and the right.

They attack only the left and defend the right.

The left gets attack from both side, the right gets only defense from their own.

They will continue to destroy us as long as we are willing to play fair when they are playing dirty.

No Democrat should be charged with anything or even looked at until DeLay is thrown out of office and sent to jail.

When their side gets attacked, they defend. When our side gets attacked, we do what?

It's so obvious that we will continue to lose.

30. No, I'd rather be part of the "it's better to be a nice loser" department
Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of people are dying around the world because some people prefer to be nice and lose rather than fight as hard and mean as Republicans do.

We don't make the rules anymore - we either play by the rules the Repulbicans are playing by or we continue to lose.

My guess is that we will choose to lose, as we have been for the last four years at least.

Expect to end up on the ground eventually.

When Republicans are slugging us, we have to fight back.

I know that many Democrats would rather be nice losers than fight mean and dirty like the Republicans, but how nice is it really to let hundreds of thousands of people around the world die from Republican policies because people are too wimpy to take off the gloves and fight?

I just shake my head.

if democrats look at the evidence and genuinely feel this is a railroad job, they should speak out loud and proud. and the rule of law should exonerate him.

however, if he's dirty (as you correctly point out), closing ranks and closing our minds is counter-productive.

33. WRITE TO SEN CLINTON HERE (If you feel you want to) I did -
Dear Senator Clinton,

This "news" item is so obviously payback for your stand with other Democrats for spotlighting Ohio election problems yesterday. It’s such a Rove move.

If you stand up and say so you will do at least 3 things. Inform even more people about the Ohio voting problems, expose even more of the republican's playing dirty, and encourage even more support from Dems who are tired of not fighting back. Promise!

There has never been a time when we needed people more to stand up and expose the bush administration. And it’s just in time to work on changing the congress. Please consider becoming more vocal against this crap. We will join you.

Sincerely,
Signed by me
My town, USA

Anytime a Dem who spoke out gets attacked, they should denounce the GOP effort at retaliation for exposing voting fraud.

The GOP may scale back their attacks on DEMS, or foolishly escalate, giving more airtime to charges that the GOP rigged the election.

Either way, we win!

Every attack on a Dem who spoke out yesterday should trigger a press conference, at which the Dem tells the media, "This is payback for exposing the shockingly irresponsible Republican attitudes toward fixing voting problems in America...Then launch into a litany of voting abuses, from long lines to fraud.

I'll bet the GOP would back off in a hurry!

Lawmakers Demand President Bush STOP Paying
Journalists to Promote Administration Policies

Reid, Lautenberg, Kennedy Also Ask President If His
Administration Has Paid Other Journalists to Promote
other Policies, including Social Security Privatization

WASHINGTON, DC – In light of alarming news that the Bush administration paid a popular conservative radio commentator and columnist almost a quarter of a million dollars to skew his reporting to promote the No Child Left Behind Act, United States Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Harry Reid (D-NV) sent a letter to President Bush today demanding that he recover the money paid to Armstrong Williams, citing federal laws that prohibit such activity. In addition, the lawmakers also asked President Bush to disclose any payments to other journalists to push Administration policies, including President Bush’s decision to privatize Social Security.

In news reports today, it was revealed conservative pundit and commentator Armstrong Williams was paid $240,000 to promote President Bush’s No Child Left Behind Act on his syndicated radio program and in addition, to urge other pundits to routinely hype the law during their own appearances on other programs.

In their letter to President Bush, the Lawmakers cite federal laws that prohibit taxpayer funds from being spent by the Executive Branch for “Covert Propaganda”.

“In addition to the illegality of these actions taken by your Administration, we believe that the act of bribing journalists to bias their news in favor of government policies undermines the integrity of our democracy. Actions like this were common in the Soviet Union, but until now, thought to be long extinguished in our country,” wrote the lawmakers in their letter to President Bush sent today.

These revelations regarding Mr. Williams are the latest – and most disturbing – in a series of actions by your Administration to manipulate public opinion through covert propaganda. On May 19, 2004, the GAO found that your Administration illegally spent taxpayer funds on covert propaganda by paying Ketchum Incorporated to produce fake news stories promoting the image of the new Medicare law.

The links below are examples of syndicated columns published by the Tribune Media Company from Armstrong Williams in support of the No Child Left Behind Act.
