Activists File Papers to Put Measure Banning Affirmative Action on Michigan's 2006 Ballot By SILLA BRUSH
A Michigan group seeking to enact a state ban on affirmative action in college admissions and government hiring filed petitions on Thursday to put the proposal on the 2006 ballot.
The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative submitted what it said were 508,202 signatures of support, starting what is likely to be a controversial two-year campaign, said Chetly Zarko, the initiative's spokesman. The project is backed by Ward Connerly, the University of California regent who has led efforts to abolish affirmative action in California and Washington State. ....
Organizers of the ballot measure had originally hoped to put the proposal to a vote in 2004, but a judge said last March that its language was unclear (The Chronicle, April 9, 2004). Mr. Zarko said the group was optimistic after an appeals-court ruling in June that supported the petition drive, but by then it was too late to gather the 317,757 signatures needed to put the measure on the ballot last year. Instead, the group postponed the effort until the 2006 election

3. A couple of white guys at my job were talking excitedly about this |
|
the other night. "We just want a fair chance," they said. I looked around the room and counted up all the bodies in our department. I would venture to guess that 80% of the workforce in our department is WHITE MALES. The rest are white females. There is a lone black man who, I'm afraid, just got fired for screwing up badly.
How do you talk sense to people like this? They are not seeing reality, they are listening to bullshit.
I get so steamed I don't know what to say. I hate when they argue politics in my presence. I usually tell them to take it somewhere else because many of them only listen to MSM, Rush Limbaugh, et al.
The only thing I could muster last night was, "you know, this is just another issue brought up to divide people so they don't realize how badly the government is screwing them by shipping jobs overseas and eliminating the middle class."
I would love to have an intelligent conversation sometime, but there are so few people left whose minds have not been totally corrupted by the bs they hear/read from the MSM.

6. This is the set-up for Bush*s annual anti-MLK gesture to RepubliKlans. |

You might recall that every year at the time of Martin Luther King's birthday holiday the Repubs make a symbolically racist gesture, usually about affirmative action, to give a public wink-wink-nudge-nudge to the KKK element of the right wing.
Yup. Right on time...

Let's wait and see how many $ he was paid by Bush and the GOP to promote the administration's views, right out of our pocket.
