Mosul election center blown up
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2005-01/08/content_2432723.htm

BEIJING, Jan. 8 -- In Iraq, a building, earmarked for use during this month's national elections, has been blown up in Mosul. The predominantly Sunni city lies 360 kilometers north of the capital, Bagdad.

Mosul has recently emerged as the center of insurgent activity. Meanwhile, the Associated Press received a videotape from a previously unknown group. Calling itself Abu Bakr al-Sadiq, members claim that the recording was made recently in Baqouba. The film includes a large explosion, as what appears to be a US Humvee approaches. There's been no comment from American officials.

Meanwhile a spokesman for Muqtada al-Sadr says the radical Shiite cleric will participate in this month's elections, on condition that Sunni Muslims also take part. Many members of the country's minority have vowed to stay away from the vote, deterred by instability and violence.
