'US airstrike' near Mosul kills many
Reuters pictures showed a house in the village of Aaytha, southeast of the northern city of Mosul, reduced to rubble.

They also showed rows of freshly dug graves where locals said the dead had been buried.

Earlier a human bomber killed four people near a checkpoint south of Baghdad and anti-US fighters abducted three senior Iraqi officials.

In the past week alone, fighters have killed nearly 100 people in bombings, ambushes and assassinations mostly targeting fledgling security services they regard as collaborators.

2. The US might as well go ahead and level all of the cities and
towns in Iraq. It's where they are headed and it's really what they want to do, the old "parking lot" idea. All the US wants is the oil.
The presence of the Iraqi people is viewed as a roadblock to stealing or at least controlling the oil.

When will humanity correct this?

I just cannot say.

8. Probably has way more before he even started
especially when you count all the unfortunates that poppy's troops buried in the sand with bulldozers. It would not come as a surprise to find out that the mass graves are from the first invasion and not from Saddam at all.

The very same criminals are running this show.

10. Do you know what those are in your photo?
Those are Iranian remains that were waiting to be returned to Iran, from the Iran-Iraq war. The Iranians have the same, but Iraqi remains. It was for an exchange & repatriation.

War dead.

Not Saddam Hussein "mass graves".

Just so ya know.

How did you know? Did you recognize the pic. I came about it in a weird way and I didn't know more about it, except that it was taken recently in Iraq.

I have more pics like this and would appreciate more info about them. Thanks.

I can find links for you, if you'd like. That photo was one of several used in the UK by The Daily Telegraph...Murdoch-owned which says it all, doesn't it.

The Daily tried to say this was a "slaughter house" of "torture" found by the troops during the invasion.

Altho this story was totally debunked, and The Daily got into hot water for it, some rightwingnuts still go on about the "torture slaughter house". :eyes:

Then again, rightwingnuts still go on about the "incubator babies" from 1991 and the "purple plastic people shredder" from 2003.

:eyes:

22. Here's a couple more from the same warehouse

Thanks for the info, I found them in someone's root directory with a whole bunch of other stuff. They were very large hi-res images, so I assumed they were from the originals rather than the ones that go out over the wires. I had to scale them down just to post them, without killing people's hard drives.

5. Have we
turned the corner yet? I mean... well you know...

>>The Defense Secretary knew well, naturally, his audience in the Senate Armed Services Committee. As Senator Robert Byrd recently said from the Senate floor, ...."this Chamber is, for the most part, silent--ominously, dreadfully silent. There is no debate, no discussion, no attempt to lay out for the nation the pros and cons of this particular war. There is nothing."<<

http://foi.missouri.edu/terrorbkgd/following.html
>>Sen. Robert Byrd, a master at hectoring executive branch witnesses, asked Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld a provocative question last week: Did the United States help Saddam Hussein produce weapons of biological warfare? Rumsfeld brushed off the Senate's 84-year-old president pro tem like a Pentagon reporter. But a paper trail indicates Rumsfeld should have answered yes.<<

>>Quite a different account was given in a sworn court statement by Howard Teicher on Jan. 31, 1995. Teicher, a National Security Council aide who accompanied Rumsfeld to Baghdad, said Rumsfeld relayed Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir's offer to help Iraq in its war. ''Aziz refused even to accept the Israeli's letter to (Saddam) Hussein offering assistance,'' said Teicher, ''because Aziz told us that he would be executed on the spot.''

Such recollections of the recent past make for uncomfortable officials in Washington and Jerusalem today.<<

U.S. President.
10-2-1989. Presidential Directive 26. October 2.
Iraq
>>Normal relations between the United States and Iraq would serve our long-term interests and promote stability in both the Gulf and the Middle East. The United States Government should propose economic and political incentives for Iraq to moderate its behavior and to increase our influence with Iraq. At the same time, the Iraqi leadership must understand that any illegal use of chemical and/or biological weapons will lead to economic and political sanctions, for which we would seek the broadest possible report from out allies and friends. Any breach by Iraq of IAEA safeguards in its nuclear program will result in a similar response. Human rights considerations should continue to be an important element in our policy toward Iraq. In addition, Iraq should be urged to cease its meddling in external affairs, such as in Lebanon, and be encouraged to play a constructive role in negotiating a settlement with Iran and cooperating in the Middle East peace process.

We should pursue, and seek to facilitate, opportunities for U.S. firms to participate in the reconstruction of the Iraqi economy, particularly in the energy area, where they do not conflict with our non-proliferation and other significant objectives. Also, as a means of developing access to and influence with the Iraqi defense establishment, the United States should consider sales of non-lethal forms of military assistance, e.g., training courses and medical exchanges, on a case by case basis.<<

27. U.S. bombs Iraqi house in error
BAGHDAD - An F-16 jet mistakenly bombed a house outside Mosul Saturday that killed five people, the United States military reported.

The owner of the house, Ali Yousef differs, saying the 225-kilogram bomb killed 14 people, including seven children. <snip>

Yousef told Associated Press Television News that the air strike happened at about 2:30 a.m. An Associated Press photographer said the brick house was reduced to rubble.

The strike occurred in the town of Aitha, 50 kilometres south of Mosul. <snip>

20. But, but, that's impossible!
Those are precision smart bombs, they could fly down chimneys like Santa Claus.

I heard those bombs are so smart, they refuse to hit the wrong target.
So either this is Eye-raqi propaganda, or it was a housefull of terrorists.

Sorry - sarcasm is my best (really only) defense these days.

An Associated Press photographer said from the scene that 14 members of the same family - seven children, four women and three men - were killed, and six people were wounded, including another child.
